I have been somewhat disheartened with the Romney signs I've been seeing in NoVA, but to be fair, they are usually in the very wealthy neighborhoods where I see them (Falls Church, Alexandria, Fairfax)
NoVA is very diverse and I believe that the demographic you see photographed at Mason will hopefully put the President over the edge here. I think Kaine will win for sure, but we have the burden of the rest of VA to worry about, with the President. I don't worry about NoVA, Charlottsville (UVA) or Norfolk/Hampton Roads/VA Beach, nearly as much as the rest of the state.

(34,481 posts)For every R/R sign you see, there are probably two Obama voters who don't have a sign.

(28,945 posts)The Obama campaign choose to put the money in the ground game.
Signs, ads, TV appearances, etc are the "air" war. Boots on the ground, volunteers phone banking and going door to door is the ground battle.
Air power can and does win battles, re the last two debates. However, the grunt doing the hard slough wins the final battle and the war.
I volunteer at the local OFA office and I've listened to more than one phone bankster turn around an undecided voter.
Signs don't vote and they probably have changed no minds.

(34,481 posts)for a long time. Much of Fairfax County is blue and purple.
My point was that we shouldn't worry about a lot of Romney signs there. There have always been R voters in my neighborhood, for example, because there are lots of military brass and contractors. It's not just a matter of flipping undecided. Romney had made sure they are putting signs in all their yards, and inundating all of us with extremely annoying robo calls. We can't figure out why we are on their calling lists; the calls come from many different #s so it is hard to screen them and my carrier doesn't have a call blocker. Probably some idiot in the campaign has decided that any neighborhood with a housing cost above a certain amount must be Republican, not realizing that every neighborhood close-in is outrageously expensive, even for tiny little houses and condos, or that many people who are well off around here at Obama voters.
But they are outnumbered. This is not to get complacent but just to reassure those (and I have friends in this category) who are worried about seeing all those R/R signs.

(14,887 posts)a picture of a Rmoney rally from the view in picture 1? I never have. I have to surmise that if there were thousands in attendance, the rethugs would certainly use it. But have never seen one. Anyone?

(50,566 posts)That was during the "white people won't support Obama" phase of the campaign in 2008. Yet that rally was a giant sea of white and gave his campaign a shot in the arm. A lot of us are pretty damn white in Portland, in both senses of the word -- melanin deficient + lack of sun.

(202 posts)Great to see such a diverse crowd. Not the same at Mitt's meetings, usually only older white angry people. We can win this people, as long as we catch all the republican cheaters and get everyone out to vote.

(758 posts)SS detail crazy. It makes me nervous. Bush certainly wasn't that, and Romney, no way.

(16 posts)we all had to go through TSA-like screening to get in to the event - looking through purses and bags, walking through portable scanners, etc. Plus, a nearby dorm had their windows all blocked off from the previous evening through 1pm (after the rally was over) according to a student I was standing near.

(13 posts)I really feel sorry for the Secret Service guys when Obama visits the crowd. Most real people love Obama but all it takes is one nut job. Finding that nut job while letting ordinary people share their fondness of Obama with Obama is a tough job. I wouldn't want that job for any amount of money. No wonder the Secret Service guys drink a little bit.

(19,458 posts)I watched some Romney lines, and NO ONE does that. You just do not see people reaching out like that.. even tho the people know they can't actually REACH the President, they reach out to him like that.
The MSM is on crack if they believe this BS about an enthusiasm gap. I see people of all ages, genders, and colors, in that crowd. The pollsters need to dump the "likely voter" crap. These folks ARe the likely voters.
