2. How close a relative must one be to be counted, and is real military service only during wars?

Would one Romney man who served matter?

I served with one of Mitt's cousins (or at least a guy who was LDS and claimed George Romney was an uncle) in the spring of 1974.

I really think the issue is Mitt's service. His family's attitude about military service may have influenced him, but his choices to apply for deferments were, in fact, his choices.

3. They were special deferments only offered to members of the LDS church way back when.

So in one sense Whoopi was right in her questions to Ann Romney in a coy joust. She knew what she was asking drawing out Ann Romney.

for their church.

IMO blaming Mitt's religion, or his family for his disinterest in serving in the US military during a conflict that he actively supported diminishes Mitt's responsibility
for his actions by suggesting that somehow his family and social circumstance dictated that position.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

Mitt _chose_ to take deferments, note that that's plural, _HE_ chose to take all of them.

Mormon's believe people become accountable at age 8.

Consequently, in the eyse of his church, all Mitt's choices about deferments were his responsibility. His. Alone.

5. Choice does seem to be a central theme in Mormon theology they do reject predestination.

Mitt appears to me to be at odds with that idea listening to his comedy routine at the Al Smith banquet.

I appreciate Mr. O'Donnell's passion and defense of his president. But IMO this kind of theater undermines his credibility and, though I never thought he was going to cry, steers him toward the kind of Beckism we all love to hate.

Separately (and Secret Service agents aside), I'd wager that either of the Obama girls could deck Mitt before any of the Romneymen could lay a glove on The President.

....I'd empty his wallet of any cash and toss it empty on his chest so it's the first thing he sees when he comes to. Then I'd give it a homeless person. You know,....just because these people are so obsessed with money and "redistribution".
