Romney Magic Trick Exposed!
Romney's Amazing Sleight of Hand Performance!
"No props, notes, charts, diagrams or other writings can be used by the candidates; however, they can take notes on the type of paper of their choosing. The candidates cannot ask each other direct questions, but can ask rhetorical questions. The candidates cannot address each other with proposed pledges. Each candidate can use his own makeup artist. No candidate is allowed to use risers or any other device to make them look taller. The Coin Toss: At least 72 hours before the first debate, there will be a coin toss on the order of questioning and closing arguments."

Whether you like it or not we are in an international market place. If it is cheaper to operate from Cayman Islands instead of super inflated real-estate market of Wash DC, I see nothing wrong in setting up operations anywhere.

Believe me, I know that Mitt Romney is a sociopath. No argument from me there.
I am just wondering if we can--with certainty--say that what he put on the podium was paper with his notes on it?
It would be great to get this lying sociopath exposed for the cheater that he is.
Also---it would be terrific to comb through the debate footage in the very beginning. If these were notes, he would obviously be looking at them, maybe unfolding that paper, etc. Any footage before he began taking notes would be especially useful.
Also, there was a camera person (s) situated behind both candidates who was shooting the entire time. Surely they would be able to
provide additional insight, and possibly confirm what exactly that was that he removed from his pocket.
If he did cheat--he really is a complete fool!!!

(55,981 posts)This may not be 100% accurate but it's where I start. In other words, I think he cheated until proven otherwise.
Secondly, I didnt document this but wondered at the time. I saw him refer to notes. This in itself isnt unusual except I hadnt seen him taking any notes. At the time, I assumed I just missed seeing him take notes. Now I think otherwise.
99th_Monkey
(19,326 posts)but to me "it" looked like folded paper which he spreads out.
But that is all this proves. We have no way of knowing precisely
WHAT was WRITTEN ON the paper, if anything.
I wish we could bust Mittens with this, but it's taking a knife to
a gunfight. i.e. it isn't sufficient evidence to prove what we suspect.
zentrum

Hard to believe they wouldn't have the paper of their choosing already on the podium, and this did look furtive. But it was done on camera and right in front of many in the audience. I'm not sure what we're seeing.
rhett o rick
(55,981 posts)99th_Monkey
(19,326 posts)there were very few who COULD have seen it, just on the right of the
screen, but not many, as that podium has like a 4-5" wall on three sides (the
front, the right and left) and was open where he was standing, so that little
wall I think virtually hid what he was doing from most everyone.
and I doubt he knew about the camera in the rear; although he should have,
remembering how that same rear camera captured lumpy device on GWBush's
back (or so it seemed).

pandr32
(11,605 posts)...and was criticized for looking down through much of the debate, but Romney was shoveling so much shit at him he was writing notes to try to keep track--as the rules allow for, and that is why they give you note paper. Romney, on the other hand, was given high marks for engaging the audience more and appearing more "prepared." He was prepared all right--he cheated. His zingers were listed on his cheat sheet so all he had to do was occasionally look down at his list--he did not spend much time writing any notes, and if you remember, at the end of the debate he kept his eye on his 'notes" even while shaking the President's hand and went over to grab them up as soon as he could, disguising the lists of cheats within the papers provided.
Why Syzygy
(18,928 posts)He left his crowd on stage and went back to pick up his notes from the podium. He shuffled them a bit before picking them up. I was wondering why he didn't have some peon to do that. It was odd.

(12,977 posts)If you pause the video around 15 seconds, you can see that he's holding it at the rear edge and it's sticking out stiffly in front of him.
Not only wouldn't a handkerchief do that, but you wouldn't hold one that way. You might hold it by the side, between thumb and fingers, or if you wanted to keep it flat you might have your hand under it. And in either case, you'd put the edge that you weren't supporting down first and then withdraw your hand. He doesn't do any of that.

(57,936 posts)OP), and you don't place it over the paper on which you are supposed to take notes.
...but why take it out of his pocket and place it on the podium? He moved it after it landed too, as if to place it purposefully. The object appeared to have some weight to it - like 3"x5" notecards that sort of softly thudded down in one unit rather than landing like sheets of paper - and it definitely appeared heavier than folded cloth.
I don't think the video snippet is conclusive as it's posted here, but I think it should be out there with the question about just what Mittens took out of his pocket and put on the podium though.

(570 posts)My ex used to use hankerchiefs, so I've washed and folded and set them down and dropped them plenty. They don't move like that.
If he were just bringing his own paper to write on, he could have easily had it in his inside jacket pocket and had no need to sneak it out of his front pants pocket.
And the entire time he's doing this he's got that smarmy smirk on his face again.

Close up shows a quad folded paper with words, perhaps typed but unclear on his podium.
At the end he hides them under his given paper, and goes back to retrieve them later. Much fumbling. Can't get them in his jacket pocket. Ann can't take her eyes off of the paper and mouths "we need to get off the stage" One of Mitt's sons reaches to take the papers, but Mitt has now handed them off to another son, who puts them in his pocket.
Check out closeups.

In high school, she actually stole a copy of a physics exam and, though it was well known to the student body and the administration, she was then inducted into the Nat'l Honor Society a couple days later. A year later at college, I saw her cheating on a Sociology 101 exam.

(94 posts)We know he will bend or break the rules if he believes it's to his advantage. However, I'd love for someone to give the entire video some scrutiny before this gets legitimized as a formal accusation by anyone of credence. What gets pumped through our TVs is of lower detail than what the cameras capture, and the raw footage may be more revealing, for better or worse.
Is there another point in the video where we can observe him pulling the handkerchief out of his clothing? In addition to a better look at the video to try to see what exactly that is, it would be good to account for the things that it could also (but might not) be.

(94 posts)It's not like his campaign and his party have been tied to efforts to falsify or destroy voter registrations to favor Republicans. It's not like his campaign and his party have been tied to True The Vote and other formal and informal voter suppression groups. It's not like his partisans across the country have "coincidentally" implemented Voter ID laws that disproportionately disenfranchise legitimate democrat-leaning voters, primarily in battleground states that Romney needs. Oh wait, it's exactly like that. Never mind.
