(3,396 posts)Shouldnt it be Honkies or Ofays? Granted, there isnt really a term for white people as offensive as the r-word, but those would be closer.

(1,670 posts)I've always found it pretty offensive when it's been directed at me.

(24,931 posts)Even in Taiwan when they called me "big nose" (a common "slur" for white people) in either Mandarin or Taiwanese, I wasn't bothered.
Though, I did get a bit testy when I was in our home in Minneapolis and my ex-wife's (Taiwanese) friend (a woman from Hong Kong) was talking about some "foreigner" (white person) and I replied, "Who's the foreigner here?"

(1,670 posts)and "muttering" round eye while I was shopping for oyster sauce that was most offending, but the two are intertwined now.

(14,854 posts)I'm trying to imagine a name that would bother me, and I've had no luck so far.
Changing the name from Redskins to Rednecks might be an easy transition, though.

(8,915 posts)The team front office had a contest to name the team.
My friends and I, even my daughter, join in the hilarity and submitted, I sure some were duplicates, team name suggestions.
Vega$ Strippers

There were betters ones, but I only listed the ones I remember and pretty obvious.
We should do the same the Washington team name.

(14,854 posts)... but I'd rather not get those idiots needlessly worked up, I guess.
It WAS a swamp, though, geologically.
One of my distant ancestors was a guy named Otho Holland Williams (Williamsport MD is named after him), and he wrote letters to Gen. Washington to place the nation's capitol there. The swampland was picked instead.

Just spitballing.

(14,854 posts)I hope they wouldn't pick Bombers, though. I'm so sick of our military sticking it's nose in places and generally making matters worse. Killing several innocent people in the process too.
I don't think it's healthy for us domestically either.
My oldest brother worked under an old physicist from Germany back in the 70's and 80's, and he warned my brother that the militarization would lead to fascism in this country. He was a young man when Hitler rose to power and he blamed it on Germany's previous obsession with their military.

(8,915 posts)that called themselves "The Fighting Whites", here are a couple of their logos.
The university has a large student body of Native Americans.
Because they didn't want school mascots depicting Native American badly, they decided to turn the table on those mascots and came up with "The Fighting Whites" name.
The community loved the name.
So the Intramural team took advantage and started marketing souvenirs and they sold like hotcakes.

(24,931 posts)and she's been wearing this shirt:
I also saw a Native guy the other day with the same shirt and said, "I like your shirt!" and he said that it's a good barometer for him in that most people get a nasty look on their faces when they see that shirt, but folks who smile or comment positively on it he'll usually stop and talk to.
