All I can see from my tract home are streets, strip malls, cars, and parking lots. Humans spent a couple of million years developing into what we are now, but really got a handhold only about 10k years ago. At that time, Modern humans managed to kill off the Neanderthals and made most wildlife go extinct over the course of his existence. We are still up to the same tricks, extinction of species is on a record pace and all geared around our worship of greed, money, and Asian ignorance, i.e., Tiger bones, Rhino horns, etc make your dick harder.
In reality, our footprint here in the USA is only a few hundred years old. Just as you said Vic, Look at what we have done in that short time period. Dinosaurs ruled the earth for 140 million years, they did that because no humans were around to kill them off, not just for food, but for entertainment and mental illness. Do you think humans will outlive the dinosaurs? Not a fucking chance. Look how we operate, no consideration given to future humans, it's all about the present, it's all about me and how much cash I can stuff in my pockets and what I can kick to the curb getting there. 50% of our land is owned by 1% of the wealthiest Americans and foreigners. I'll bet you China and Saudi Arabia own more of us than we do ourselves. Yet, we have an ass-backward and corrupt administration that wants to sell off our public land, if they had it their way, they would sell off our national parks to the highest bidder as well, that bid would likely be rigged so Exxon or Standard would win.
China dumps about two million tons of raw sewage into the S. China Sea every day. You should have seen the shit coming down the LA river (concrete canal) and dumping into Long Beach Harbor after it rained up in the mountains outside of LA. I was there to visit the sites and saw a mountain of styrofoam cups, plastic bottles, plastic bags, and all sorts of other garbage that eventually will cause some sort of damage to the world's ecosystem, kill off countless sea life and show any visitors from outer space how fucked up our culture really is. No wonder we haven't had any official visits from space aliens, they probably took one scan of how we are intentionally destroying ourselves and made an immediate u-turn and went home. But, to most people, it's worth having a throwaway bag or cup, god forbid I have to get off my lazy ass and bring a reusable bag to the grocery store. We are like environmental cannibals.
We have only one check and balance to our obsession to increase our populations to where we will eventually outstrip the earth's ability to provide. In the meantime, we procrastinate the inevitable disaster by throwing more and more chemicals, pesticides, herbicides, and hundreds of other poisons around in order to extend, or rather squeeze what the earth can give to where it cannot give any more. The administration is fast-tracking more chemicals without previous science testing protocols. We build running amok only to be stopped by a mountain, hasn't anyone given any thought to managing our exploding populations? I think this freedom thing will be another means of killing us off.
Today's generation has the advantage of surviving at a time where we can watch it happen from the sidelines, literally fat and dumb. We do nothing about it because we shut the door behind us after we kicked the bucket. Stop having litters of kids. I really feel sorry for those in the future that have been handed this pile of crap. They will be the ones without options because we fucked up our world so badly they have no other choice but to try and unwind the damage we caused. If we haven't killed ourselves off by then, it will be like having cancer that once you feel the symptoms, you are terminal.
I can't thank you enough Vic for expressing the truth. We are living in a culture whereby lying to us, and doing it over and over in unison so it sinks in is the norm. Vic is the smart guy in the room.
