they just pulled it out of their rear ends."

From Live Science:

"Six feet is the average distance that respiratory droplets from a sneeze or cough travel before they settle and are no longer likely to be inhaled by other people," said Krys Johnson, an epidemiologist at Temple University. "I have seen estimates for social distancing of up to 10 feet if someone sneezes quite hard, [or] does not cover their sneeze [or] cough," she said. "This allows those particles a little more distance to settle so that you are not breathing them in. As long as someone's not outwardly ill, though, you should be safe maintaining a 6-foot distance."

From ABC News:

In efforts to stop the spread of coronavirus, experts are recommending "social distancing" - generally involving people staying at least six feet away from each other when possible.

Why six feet?

Experts believe the virus is mainly spread through droplets that come out of your mouth and nose. When an infected person speaks, exhales, coughs or sneezes, the droplets travel about three to six feet before gravity pulls them to the ground.

So stay six feet away from someone, and you stop the spread.

Of course, in order to learn this you have to be able to spell Google, and have some respect for science and the people who have devoted their lives to research about these topics. Or you can obey the ravings of a lunatic con man and risk your life and those of the people in your family, as well as those of medical personnel who risk their lives every day.

BTW, there's also good reasons for wearing a mask.
