Coronavirus and pets: can you kiss your dog?

Text:
The Covid-19 outbreak, which originated in the Chinese city of Wuhan, has so far infected tens out thousands of people and killed more than 3,400 people globally. But what do we know about the virus and how it might affect our pets? Guardian reporter Helen Davidson answers some of the most common and pressing questions surrounding the coronavirus outbreak and whether it's still safe to kiss your pets

Bottom line: Because there are no scientific studies yet done, we don't know if or how animal carriers can spread the disease so it's best to play it safe.

I don't own a dog at this time but others have expressed concern. I would be far more concerned about animals sneezing and spreading the virus or spreading them onto surfaces they like to lick such as people's hands.

far it seems they have only tested that one dog in Hong Kong. If they aren't testing, I can kind of understand why..the west will lose their minds minds if pets can get it, many would die for their pets here, I completely understand this thinking, they are members of our families.

I go to work every day, they hang out at the house with my (retired) husband and run around the yard once in a while. I worry that I will be the one bringing the virus in on hubby (it's not like dogs are Chimps, they don't get human flu and we don't get Kennel Cough after all).

An exception being when I take my girl to compete in Dog Agility trials, and even there I'd be the one to pick it up since I like people but she is not too keen on other dogs.

I am just waiting to see when it shows up here in Kentucky. If we even know where it is spreading much at all with so few tests available and a lunatic administration that wants to put its head in the sand.
