OK, OK, I'm outraged nevertheless. But not surprised. Alexander has been around long enough to know that the so-called president committed an impeachable offense and, therefore, could justifiably be removed from office. He does not, however, think the so-called president should be removed from office for the simple reason that Trump is taking care to do things the Republicans favor -- even lust for -- while he sets about feathering his own nest, eliminating his staggering personal debt and robbing American taxpayers to ensure continued wealth, luxury, and power for his unimpressive offspring. And Alexander, like all of the GOP Senators (now that McCain is gone) believes, above all else, that loyalty to his party must always to be held above whatever loyalty he feels to his country.

To take it a step further: Alexander knows, as do his GOP comrades in the senate, in the house, and in state legislatures and state and federal courts, that the 2016 presidential election saw an unpopular, revolting man given the office of the president by a combination of Russian assistance, the FBI's intervention (in Comey's unprincipled revelation that a phony investigation into Hillary Clinton's emails had been re-opened), Republican suppression of the votes of blacks, latinos, and other Americans likely to vote Democratic, and very likely the actual theft of votes by the manipulation of electronic ballots flipping Democratic votes to the GOP.

Alexander, I'm saying, knows that Trump will likely be re-elected through various methods of cheating -- and he sleeps with that knowledge, sleeps comfortably, because he doesn't give a flick about the constitution of the U.S. or its traditionally expressed and espoused (though often in the breach) morals and standards. Whatever civilization replaces the one Trump and his cronies are in process of destroying will dig up the facts of this case and react -- I hope -- in shock and sadness as each layer of infamy is peeled back to reveal another, more leprous one.

I'm voting Democratic in November, regardless the nominee. But, with the exception of Mitt Romney -- who may actually have a constituency that is repelled by Trump -- every Republican senator has turned their back on freedom, on the constitution, and on the nation worth preserving. Ditto for virtually every other GOP politician -- I'll admit there are a few, a small few, at the state level who continue to govern and refuse to pass in review before Trump, goose-stepping on parade.

Whether it is possible, even with an overwhelming voter turnout, to defeat Trump at the polls is a question. If the votes are mis-counted or flipped, or "lost" in Blue states and precincts, there will be no recourse for honest voters -- and Alexander and his political siblings have demonstrated time and again that they don't care. If Trump wins through massive cheating, the GOP apparatus will stand four square behind him and the Supreme Court will defy any and all attempts to challenge the results. But, hey, even if somehow the GOP slips up and the actual vote count show the Republicans have been run out of office across the board -- including out of the WH -- there remains the question raised by Trump's former personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, and by Bill Maher of whether the son of a bitch will leave or just declare the election(s) null and void and dare the Democrats and the people in general to try to do something about it.

I'm growing more and more afraid that America, and its experiment as a Democratic Republic, is over.

Like almost all GOPee rationalizations.

If you gave him truth serum, he'd say: "Ya'll know I just hate that fat orange summabitch - but he's gettin' everything in mah fascist, confederate wish list checked off, so I gotta support'im!"
