https://archive.org/details/The-Phil-Donahue-Show-Donald-Trump-1987
It is kind of an interesting interview just to compare the Trump from now to 32 years ago. Phil Donahue takes a generally antagonist role toward Trump, but he seems not to have done much homework on Trump and maybe almost acting the role of a tough interviewer instead of truly being a tough interviewer. Trump generally wins over the crowd of mostly women.
Trump talks against Mayor Ed Koch, saying he is corrupt and talks about his many buildings in New York, he says rent control only gives breaks to wealthy people and not low income people. He repeatedly cites Japan and Saudi Arabia as bad characters for taking advantage of deals with America. Why he singles out Japan I don't know. He says he donated 1 million to Vietnam Veterans and to United Cerebral Palsy which I read he did contribute to the Vietnam Veterans and United Cerebral Palsy.
Phil Donahue is now age 84. I really enjoyed watching his show in the early 80s.

United Cerebral Palsy
Trump has claimed he has donated millions to the organization, but hes given far less than that though he has still given a significant amount of money. A spokesperson for New Yorks UCP chapter said the organizations records from 1974 to 2004 show total donations from the Trump Foundation, Donald Trump, the Trump Organization, and his ex-wife Ivana somewhere between $250,000 to $500,000.

Beringia
(4,316 posts)4. Probably because of his book Art of the Deal
From a quick glance at a list of his guests, he mainly interviewed politicians and celebrities. I thought he got into social issues, but maybe I just imagined that.

He seemed to take such delight in his buffoonery thirty years ago. And then he grew worse. Changed the nouns, but the verbs remain the same today.
