...the redux is only a cheap, tawdry, tacky, badly-acted version of the original. The royal families of Europe used to have murals painted on their living room ceilings, and gold doorknobs on their doors. The Trump version of this is to have vulgar imitations of murals on the walls, and to sit on a gold toilet every morning as you live tweet Fox News.
So, here we go again. Trump missed the first fall of Saigon, because he ducked out on the Vietnam War with fake bone spurs; and (by his own admission) he spent the early 70s in a drug-assisted orgy.
Here's how the original went:
--The South Vietnamese were foolish enough to think we were reliable allies, and fought along side of us for a decade.
--After thousands of American lives were lost, and hundreds of thousands of Vietnamese, it became obvious that, A) 'victory' wasn't going to be easy, and B) even a 'victory' would only benefit a bunch of corrupt corporations and oligarchs.
So, we do the old two-step.
1. Reduce the number of U.S. ground troops, and increase bombing.
2. Get the North Vietnamese to sign a bogus peace treaty, which both sides know they have no intention of honoring.
3. Withdraw U.S. troops from Vietnam, and (to 'compensate') sell more arms to South Vietnam, so they can 'do their own fighting.' (Sounds nice, but, in fact, there wasn't a single day of the Vietnam War when South Vietnamese casualties didn't vastly outnumber U.S. casualties.)
4. Once the troops are out, Congress passes a resolution forbidding them from going back.
5. North Vietnam steam-rolls over South Vietnam, and all the South Vietnamese who collaborated with the U.S. are either persecuted or slaughtered; causing millions of people to flee the country as refugees.
So, here we go again, making a remake of a bad movie. And this one has an even shallower plot, and worse acting.
1. We had 50 special forces on the north Syrian border, standing between Turkey and the Kurds. Turkey doesn't dare attack the Kurds for fear of killing Americans.
2. Trump pulls them out. Gets a lame-assed VERBAL promise from Erdogan that they wouldn't invade or slaughter the Kurds.
3. Turkey invades and starts slaughtering Kurds.
4. Trump and his imps say "oh boy, we'd better get THE REST of our troops out of there before the get hurt. This is all TURKEY'S fault!"
And that's exactly what we're seeing Trump's media imps saying this week. Turkey wouldn't BE there if the U.S. hadn't pulled out. Everything that they do from now on IS ON US! What's happening in Syria now looks very familiar to anybody who was around for the first version of this pathetic show.

You do not make a valid comparison.
Coming from a Vietnam veteran, you are sort of rewriting history with your comparison.
After I got home in 1968 it became clear to me that history is often not written by those who lived it but becomes what the majority believe it is.
