JFK: The CIA, Vietnam and the Plot to Assassinate John F. Kennedy.
Good book that covers how we got from WW2 to Trump. According to the book, the predecessor agency to the CIA put personnel in newsrooms, "guided" sympathetic managers/editors/etc. to prevent bad news and news that could give away strategic information. After the war they kind of stayed put and helped sway public opinion.

Others that were paradigm shifts for me were (in roughly chronological order)

"Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee" by Dee Brown
"Lies My Teacher Told Me" by James Loewen
"The Imperial Cruise" by James Bradley

I've likened reading this to "The Heart of Darkness". When I read that in a literature class, I was told it was an analogy for the darkness of the soul. The books above are a journey to the Heart of Darkness of our country's soul.

A few decades ago, people were in hysterics over "subliminal" ads, and before that, a guy wrote a book where he "found" the word "sex" and dirty pictures in ads hidden of course.

And there was the "backwards masking" people, and so on...

To put it mildly...

This is pure BULLSHIT.

Nothing but.

your strong negative reaction seems quite interesting, i don't recall anything said about backwards or subliminal messages, so was there something specific that set you off?

There is a LONNNGGG history of "public crusaders" making wild claims, that certain groups are "really the ones behind the media."

Jews

Illuminati

New World Order

Satan

Etc, etc...

The facts are that media exist to MAKE MONEY.

This video claims that "the CIA is behind it," while showing zero evidence of this.
Plenty of accusations, (and I am NOT going to go through each one,) but absolutely no evidence.

Just like it always is, when somebody accuses (fill in the blank group or people) of being the "Big secret plot behind" a media production.

Besides, we've seen first-hand what a bunch of Keystone Kops the CIA was, especially during the 50's and 60's.

Just like the guy who saw the word "sex" in ads all the time decades ago, this guy sees "CIA" in our media, and is just as legitimate.
In other words, he's not.

It is bullshit, it always was bullshit, it always will be bullshit.

you appear to have a general problem with the presentation or inclusion of the CIA's (or any particular entity's) participation in creating and distributing propaganda messages through mass media.

as i said in the 2nd thread, convince me it's "pure bullshit" and, as i don't intend to post bullshit, i'll gladly self-delete both OPs. you will need more than blanket unsupported assertions to convince me though. give me some specific points in the video with which you take issue, and we can discuss them in detail to establish bullshit levels. for a 10m video, 2 or more supported BS calls would convince me.

or not. i can accept your opinion and we can both simply move on knowing we disagree on this point.

CIA is not above making propaganda.

The director of the CIA secretly helped produce Hollywood's biggest movie about the Osama bin Laden raid

https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.businessinsider.com/cia-helped-produce-zero-dark-thirty

I found some info that backs up the video

In 1947, the Soviet-dominated Communist Information Bureau (Cominform) was created by Joseph Stalin. The conference, at which it was created, was a response of Eastern European countries to invitations to attend the July 1947 Paris Conference on the Marshall Plan. The Cominform's stated purpose was to coordinate the work of Communist parties, under Soviet direction, so the Soviet leader Joseph Stalin called the conference in response to divergences among the eastern European governments on whether or not to attend the Paris Conference on Marshall Aid in July 1947.

The initial seat of the Cominform was located in Belgrade (then the capital of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia). After the expulsion of Yugoslavia from the group in June 1948, the seat was moved to Bucharest, Romania. The expulsion of Yugoslavia from the Cominform for Titoism initiated the Informbiro period in that nation's history.

The intended purpose of the Cominform was to coordinate actions between Communist parties, and scores of Communist-controlled professional, artistic and intellectual groups under Soviet direction. The Kremlin had set up the Cominform in the early years of the cold war to coordinate the activities of the Cominform acted as a tool of Soviet foreign policy and Stalinism.[3]

In response, CIA psychological operators decided that the Cominform-controlled groups could best be countered by Western groups not only of intensely anti-Communist right-wing groups, but groups across the ideological spectrum. Many of them were unaware of CIA subsidy, or only a few leaders knew of the subsidy, and were not expected to follow orders. Wilford cited, as examples, the small magazines Partisan Review and The New Leader, received CIA funds in one way or another, owed nothing to the agency, either in their founding or in their operations, and were not "front" organizations.[4] Other groups formed by the CIA, however, were true fronts, although some of the individuals being sponsored were unaware of the source of funds.

Philip Agee suggested that funding from the CIA to the National Student Association, which had been formed in 1947, may have begun in 1950. Tom Braden, head of the CIA International Organizations Division, does not disclose what year this funding began;[5] but it clearly began in the 1950s and continued until 1967. Braden said that the Division was established in 1950, when Director of Central Intelligence Allen W. Dulles overruled Frank Wisner, who headed the quasi-autonomous Office of Policy Coordination (OPC). Until 1952, OPC was the covert action branch of the U.S. government, loosely part of CIA but also with direct access and appeal to the Secretaries of Defense and State.[5]

1950 also marked the beginning of the ten-year Crusade for Freedom, an operation to generate American support for Radio Free Europe that was covertly backed by the CIA.
