It's simply a matter of changing demographics. The GOP has to increasingly get a larger share of a shrinking demographic which is untenable in the long run. The problem has been the Democrats infrastructure in Texas had dried up, but thanks to prominent Texas Democrats we are seeing those networks rebuilding.

Once Texas goes blue, and it's just a matter of time, the GOP will be done. They will never again be able to win a Presidential election and they will never survive as a regional only party. In the mean time the GOP will have to devote an increasingly larger amount of resources just to hold on to Texas which they can't afford to lose. This means less resources for other places.

And it might work for a while especially with the Supreme Court as it is. Any case from Texas involving gerrymandering or voter disenfranchising that makes it to the SC will undoubtedly be ruled for in favor of the GOP.

Texas is already gerrymandered to hell and back so they already have gotten all the mileage they could ever hope to get from that. The problem with gerrymandering is once the worm turns their entire network could collapse.

Both of which can keep republicans in power longer than what they should be which leads to more gerrymandering and voter disenfranchisement.

However those efforts are doomed to fail when Texas flips statewide. Those laws will change overnight and when they do it will further insure the demise of the GOP.
