got covered up instead of doing something to try and straighten out their nasty son.

(26,624 posts)that they prove the system works, they want to take it away from others who need it too.. Romney and Ryan prove that they are unfit to run this country because they want to tell others that worked for them is unconstitutional or deficit producing for everyone else....

(71,611 posts)George wasn't a "walk-on-water" politician and there's LOTS to lay on his doorstep that continues to plague Michigan ... not the least of which are some provisions written into the state constitution (e.g. outlawing a progressive state income tax) that cripple this state. That said, he was the Lieutenant Governor under Bill Milliken who was an excellent Governor and an honest man of good character. Soapy Williams was far better, but many subsequent governors have been disastrous for this state. It's only in retrospect that the moderate wing of the GOP seems admirable ... in comparison to the outright fascists they've become.
At the time George was CEO of American Motors, the MittWit and his cronies were some of the most despicable brats you can imagine. "Spoiled" doesn't even begin to cover it. I grew up here four years Mitt's senior and always within 10-20 miles of the MittWit's stomping grounds. When I was a caddy at Oakland Hills Country Club and Birmingham Country Club, Mitt's cronies lounged in the clubhouse or at poolside -- when they weren't shitting on their "lessers."
Far from being "envious" of these people, my experience at their country clubs made me certain that I'd NEVER join them no matter how successful I became. Some of the most sleazy, self-indulged people on the planet ... and I wanted no part of them.

(13,297 posts)Mitt certainly didn't learn the finer points of getting people to go along with his ideas... looks like he has always had to buy his way into favor with people. I can't say for the life of me why Mitt (or HOW) got into Massachusetts, but I guess we are all entitled to a mistake every now and then.
But I sure hope this country isn't into making mistakes on a grand scale like Mitt as Prez. It would be the worst thing imaginable, other than Ryan taking over, should a mysterious 'accident' occur in the WH
God works in mysterious ways -- and some of them are human and quite scary

(5,106 posts)knew many guys exactly like him. There were a lot of spoiled girls also, but they didn't have the "king of the world" cachet the boys did. What surprised me in my local world (admittedly "rich" to us rarely was as "rich" as in Mitt's world) Was how many of these guys grew up to be decent, normal men. The most successful guys were the serious brainiacs, not the spoiled rich guys.

(14,549 posts)But there are other elements to the Romney story that may explain why he doesnt tell the full tale on the campaign trail. The reason that George was born in Mexico is that his grandfather - Mitts great-grandfather - had taken refuge there in order to escape US laws against polygamy. It was this family patriarch, Miles Park Romney, who established the colony and lived there with four wives.

Mitt Romney wouldn't be a multi-billionaire today if it weren't for the federal aid safety network provided to his father, period.

(5,998 posts)Romney's seem to have a strategy of straddling international borders in order to maximize their extraction of money and freedom
The have a free-trade-like approach to their US citizenship. This is particularly damning when you factor in their tendency to gain success and burn the ladder behind them.

You often doesn't get rich by being nice and gentle to others - you get rich if you have The ability to trimble on others - and cheat and often steal others belongings - the legal way of course..

(26,634 posts)He wasn't nearly as extreme as today's republicons and much more honest, but his policies did hurt many people. Remember the Detroit riots? I do, George Romney was governor at the time.

(10,749 posts)How is it that I can believe her and appreciate her and her husband's accomplishments, just from this sound bite, and yet her son lacks even a modicum of empathy for those in need. How and when did he become a sociopath? How does one stray so far?
Think about it. Mitch was 15 years old at the time. Old enough to be aware of what was going on around him? How do you lose that foundation?

(5,106 posts)background, I remember when there were some very decent Republicans. I find it sad that the Romneys raised Mitt like many others of my generation. In trying to make our lives easier than the tough times they grew up with, they spoiled many of us. Not all of us, but many I've grown up with were spoiled and lacked empathy for others. Some of us learned from some tougher knocks, many stayed as clueless as Mitt.
