away from the tribal families so they would lose their own culture not so long ago in the US

First thing was to cut their long hair then change the clothes to western wear.
I bet here male and female religious head gear and other Islam items are removed right away. Natives could not speak the tribal languages so that they could not carry it on and often lost bonding when returning with the very elders . The same will happen I bet with the Uighurs and the elders in the families too perhaps in another generation or 2

How terrifying to have you child taken away to be rdeucated into a dominant culture . Same goal to raise an entire new generation devoid of their own background to assimilate

These are directly government of China run .

The ones in US were Christian denomination run schools but financed by the government too
My first thought is that is even creepier IMO, because of the religious stuff they were indoctrinated in, but really after the thought,I have to weigh against my own non religious views and say that eradicating one’s religion to force government assimilation is just as creepy as forcing a religion not desired
it is lack of personal , family , cultural , tribal freedom overall that is so bad

Also, as we know from the “Indian boarding schools” history here, once alone and removed from the protection of family, or extended tribe the children are open to all types of abuse.
I have no doubt these children now removed and boarded in Uighur will be exposed to abuses also.
