Chief GOP Strategist RIPS into Romney/Ryan!!

Matthew Dowd was the Chief Strategist for the Bush-Cheney presidential campaign
and is not afraid to tell the truth about the lies being spread by the Mitt Romney / Paul Ryan campaign -- both in commercials like the one about welfare, and the RNC Convention speeches to the American people. When THE VERY PERSON who was instrumental in putting Conservatives George W. Bush and Dick Cheney in office is telling the Republican Party they are on the wrong page, you KNOW something is going terribly bad with their Party.

It sounds like Dowd is not only entirely angry with the deception and bad acts of the Romney campaign, he genuinely thinks their party is acting in a way that does not reflect on the importance of the high office for which Romney is seeking. He vents his anger at the GOP's unwillingness to tell the truth by lamenting about the Romney/Ryan campaign "...At SOME point, the truth SHOULD matter."

Based on what I see, Dowd is a moderate Republican who has simply had enough of the right wing, fanatical crazies in his party.

And who can blame him when they are all floating to the top of the GOP like dead fish in an oxygen depleted lake.

The GOP is getting what they want, the purging of all moderates, all useless compromisers from the party. The GOP has become the party of ideological, racial, and gender purity. They hypocritically pander to other demographics, but that is a mere smokescreen to hide the fact that the GOP is the party solely for Caucasian, Protestant men. Well, they'll tolerate Catholics, and even a Mormon, as long as they realize where the party's power truly lies, with the WASPs. Women are invited, but they must accept their place. Non-Caucasions, too, but the with the same restrictions -- know your place.

Above all, the GOP will use these non-entities as showpieces to illustrate that the GOP is not what it is. A party only for WASP men.

GOP women are Stepford wives. Non-Caucasions are just for show. Catholics have to toe the fundementalist Protestent line and we'll forgive them the fact that the Pope is the anti-Christ and they're all going to burn in Hell. They'll use the Ayn Randers as long as they don't get pushy. The tea baggers are so ignorant, they are easily manipulated. They don't even know what's really happening.

It's amusing. They even have the news media convinced, except the brave few. But they can deal effectively with them.

That's what we are dealing with.

exists in a milieu that could permit them to rise to absolute power. Rich authoritarian psychopaths controlling the purse strings of power seem able to flutter enough large-denomination currency in the air to blind the media to reality and thereby deceive large segments of the public.

The GOP stands for nothing!!! Let's go back to the past and recreate this mess all over again. They proved it then, and they want to prove it again. And Mittens flip flops like a fish out of water. NO ONE knows what they stand for anymore.

I do know this, and they've proven it over and over again.

For the most part, they are racists, anti women's rights, anti national health care, anti medicare/medicaid, anti middle class, and bigoted liars. They will say/do anything to get in the white house.

How anyone can vote for this is beyond comprehension.

It seems to me that the republican party is very similar to the catholic church at this time.
Both have pasts they want to purge, Bush/cheney and child sex abuse.

They both have a crazed element running the show and they both think that smaller, conservative, pure, unquestioning people are they way to make the party strong.

I'm not sure the church and the republican party can stand much more of this. I have the feeling that that they will crash and burn together. Nit sure they will rise again.

Those are interesting parallels. Especially the false sense of right and wrong they balance in their heads in order to maintain power (or try to at least.) It must be a fear of losing control over that which they have enjoyed for so long -- perhaps in the same way a dictator feels the onslaught of change when democracies rise up against their power.

First those that follow are silent. Then they rebel, still silently. Soon, they speak out. And finally they spark a revolution of change.

I think you are right about the last gasps too - when power is nearly lost, the spasms grow feverish.

The catholic church has systematically enabled and propagated child sex abuse for centuries. We have seen only the tip of the iceberg as far as that's concerned. It has also increased and maintained it's property (Vatican City with vast stores of libraries and treasures, cathedrals & churches, schools and hospitals, monasteries and abbeys for example), power and control through the crusades, inquisitions and local parishes.
Whilst Bush/Cheney "created" the reality of the Iraq war for money and resources, and I think that in time more young people will be able to grasp the truth of this, I think the Republican party has more flexibility and agility to roll with the punches than the unyielding catholic church.
I do see the catholic church crumbling like an old fortress/castle, yet the Republicans--who all secretly wish to go back to the "good 'ol days" when they felt secure being in the "good 'ol boys club" as represented by good 'ol Clint Eastwood--will most likely be able to recoil and regroup in the future.
It's amazing how the grassroots groups are able to forgive & move on sometimes. I think it's due in part to the younger generation being flexible and able to rebound but also they seem to have short memories!
But I don't think the younger generation, especially women, can relate to catholic church anymore.

but it is a frightening expose of the manipulation of people who thought Ralph Reed was on their side, when in reality he was humping for himself - includes Karl Rove, Jack Abramoff and even involves the outcome of the recent Scott Walker recall election -- all tied up with secret money transfers, manipulation of voters and churches of the South and the corporate elite. The first half is the main story with the 2nd part an interview by a leading Republican who left his Party in disgust and wrote a tell-all book about what he saw going on behind the scenes. It's in their DNA. Remember the quote from the Bush cartel, "We create our own reality." Orwell covered this in "1984."
The best part of telling the truth is you don't have to think about it. Lying causes insanity. Try talking to a Republican about logic, reason and truth. Today's Republicans would have embarrassed Goebbels.

It never ceases to amaze me that people are willing to part with their hard earned money on these crazies. However, the way I understand it, if you take out the Rove/Koch Bros./Adelson cartel, R&R are NOT raising more money than Obama. Just those 4 men have pledged HUGE amounts of money (I've heard up to $1B), but Obama is out-raising them with people like you and me. This was true in the primaries also. People like Santorum and Gingrich wouldn't have lasted a month without their respective "sugar daddies". They don't have to turn to common folks like us for contributions.

The bottom line is, of course, for all their billions, these huge donors still only get one vote...the same vote we have. They can intimidate and threaten their employees all they want, but when that curtain closes on the voting booth, conscience can speak. We just have to make sure we get the people to the poles. The courts have been turning out some pretty good decisions in the last week, so it looks as though a lot of RW voter suppression schemes are falling by the wayside. Onward to November!

Only problem is having a hard time reconciling what this gentleman very much helped to foist on this country in the last decade with what he's saying now. Difficult to comprehend packaging and selling a serial psychopath with a very public rant about lying in this one. Notice he says NOTHING about the ugliness of the policies spewing from the Repugs, just dismay at their focus on trying to resurrect the past. Really good laugh watching Donna Brazile try not to let her jaw drop!

Where was Mr. Dowd eight and twelve years ago? Was he calling out Bush and Cheney for lying? Or even the Swift Boat Liars for Truth? No. He may not have been the one making up the lies that Bush and Cheney told, but he was the Chief Strategist, responsible for making a reasonably coherent narrative out of those lies.

When THE VERY PERSON who was instrumental in putting Conservatives George W. Bush and Dick Cheney in office is telling the Republican Party they are on the wrong page, you KNOW something is going terribly bad with their Party.

No, that's not what it necessarily means. It may mean that the Republicans have turned the page on the past that failed miserably and are going back to being the party of Lincoln and Eisenhower again. We should take anything that Mr. Dowd says with a teaspoon of salt.

Having said that, the context of the moment in which we live is what provides justification for the the observation that there is something terribly wrong the Republican Party. We don't need Matthew Dowd to tell us that the party of Lincoln and Eisenhower is now the party of Birch Society retreads. Its presidential candidate is a corporate raider of extremely flexible convictions and no character; his running mate is a middle age teenager who never grew up to face the real world after reading Atlas Shrugged. It is financed by the Koch brothers, the spawn of a Birch Society retread who are ideological chips off the block. Their money doesn't talk; it screams.
