National Geographic : Inside WWII (2013)

Started watching this last night, found it very good. I'm going to finish watching the last hour of it later tonight.

I've watched a LOT of documentaries on both World Wars, but I'm always looking for more.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks...

I've seen WWII in Color (borrowed that one from my Dad) and yes, it was excellent.

Will check out the BBC offerings, since I love their programs anyways.

And yet he did gain power.

Similar predictions were made about Trump, and yet Trump gained power.

during WW11. We had an air raid shelter in the back yard, just like everyone in the neighborhood. One of my sisters sent me a video of Liverpool during the war. It shows the children at the railroad station, being evacuated to the countryside, away from the city. It shows the damage the docks sustained, the bombed out homes and stores. This sister worked at a large department store in downtown Liverpool. One morning, she was at the bus stop. A flatbed truck pulled up, and the driver told everyone the bus depot had been bombed the night before. He said "I am going right downtown. Anyone who wants a ride can get on. As soon as the truck is full, I am driving, and not stopping, so unless you want to go right to the Mersey Tunnel, don't get on board" He stopped at two bus stops, and the truck was full. The people all collected their fares to give to him. At the stop downtown, they gave him the cash. My sister and a friend walked a couple of blocks to the store, turned the corner, and the store had been destroyed in the raid the previous night. Many times, the newscasters would not report how much damage had been done, because of spies listening into the reports. One spy was nicknamed "Lord Haw-Haw" because he had a high class British accent. He would break into the radio reports and gloat about the damage, the people killed etc. Right at the pier head, on the Mersey was a building called "The Liver Building" (pronounced Lyver) There were two birds on the top, one looking out to sea, the other watching over the city. Lord Haw Haw would say "We are going to make those Liver birds fly tonight" My father always said "They will never bomb that building, it is a sign that they are over Liverpool" They never did.

would say one Lyver bird was watching out to sea, to guide the ships into port. The other birds was watching over the city to see if the pubs were open yet! I worked in that building years later, at an insurance company. The video my sister sent was called "Merseyside At War"
