Boot-edge-edge. It looks clunky but once you try it a few times and pick up speed, I think it's pretty much bang-on.

Here's the post by colorado_ufo. That is the most intuitive pronunciation I've seen.

Mayor Pete suggests "BOOT-edge-edge" which I suppose should settle the issue. But I don't think that really rolls off the tongue the way it's supposed to. For me "Boot(ih)-jedge" feels exactly right.

other than the way they say it should be pronounced. Certainly it's rude after you've been told how they pronounce it.

I wasn't saying that BOOT-edge-edge is incorrect. I was saying that Boot(ih)-jedge and BOOT-edge-edge are both attempts to describe phonetically THE EXACT SAME CORRECT PRONUNCIATION.

I wasn't suggesting that people should pronounce his name wrong no matter what he says. I was saying I want to pronounce it correctly and for me one phonetic spelling seems closer to the way that he himself pronounces it. Here is Mayor Pete saying it himself.

I did read those two as being different. Hearing Pete himself say his name makes it clear that either phonetic version works.

Boot(ih)-jedge sounds very much like booty, which will produce giggles on the unsuspecting ear.

Boot-a, pronounced similar to buddha and then Judge.

I hope this doesn't turn into another, what color is that dress, thing !
