(8,020 posts)back in the late 60's, early 70's taking on another crisis, air and water pollution, Earth Day and the creation of the EPA. The corporatists tried to stop us back then, just like they are denying climate change today.

I'm not sure how, but I think first, we need to take back the airwaves so we can have a reasonable discussion on steps to take.

(2,694 posts)1. This young woman is Swedish yet speaks virtually unaccented English. Many, if not most, Swedes -- and Scandinavians generally -- speak English fluently. How many Americans speak a second language fluently? (How many Deplorables cannot even articulate their anger and hatred in English?) (I wonder how many teachers in Sweden have to scrounge money from their own salaries for school supplies?)
2. Katy Tur sounds a late inning alarm, but at least she sounds it. Why, she asks, isn't climate change at the top of every freaking newscast in America? (But I didn't check the date of her broadcast, so I have to ask: have her words any resonance with the network execs at all? where are the climate stories in our television broadcasts?)
3. Moronic fascist attacks -- and some so-called "Liberal" attacks -- on AOC just prove how important her role is in this last attempt to wake up America to the fact that there is a treatable cancer destroying our planet, treatable but less so each freaking day?
4. Final, if somewhat trivial, note: I don't know why, but I find the young woman's unkempt appearance compelling and adding not only to the impact of her very eloquent words, but to the sincerity with which she delivers them.
(If there is a history written of this moment in history, I hope there is a statue to intransigent ignorance and incurable cupidity raised to commemorate the generations that ignored the warnings and permitted the degeneration of the planet's climate to continue apace. I suggest it be of a grinning and drooling old man in a $1,000 suit holding in his hand what appears to be a snowball.)
