Bernie Has Some Good News on the Progressive Agenda

Published on Jan 31, 2019
Here is some very good news: All across this country we are seeing the majority of Americans supporting the progressive agenda. If we stand together and not let the Donald Trumps of the world to divide us up, we can make some real progress.

Yes indeed! Donald Trump is definitely divisive. It's also divisive when someone says that Democrats are the "party of the elite", or to falsely claim that the Democrats are the party "of the one percent" or that Democrats are "feeble". Clearly none of those things are true.

All I'm saying is, that it's more important to stay united against the GOP because a divided and suspicious Democratic party is a weak party, and that only benefits Trump and Russia. I think that reasonable people can agree with that. Right?

I wish the DUers would watch this and strive toward being less divisive,
Totally! I know what you mean. I don't understand when people make false and divisive statements.

For example, it's FALSE and DIVISIVE for anyone to say that Democrats are "ideologically bankrupt". It's FALSE and DIVISIVE for anyone to say that Democrats are "feeble". It's also FALSE and DIVISIVE for anyone to say that Democrats are "corrupt". It's FALSE and DIVISIVE for anyone to say that the Democratic party is "the party of the one-percent". It's FALSE and DIVISIVE for anyone to say that the Democratic party is the "party of the elite".

It's also FALSE and DIVISIVE for anyone to say that there's "no difference between Democrats and Republicans;" or that Democrats are "do-nothings;" or that the Democratic party "doesn't care about climate change; or that that the Democrats "focus too much" on diversity.

All I'm trying to say here (and I think fair and reasonable people will agree with me) is that there are many ways that people can be divisive and many ways that people can create distrust and suspicion. All of these things weaken the Democratic party, and unfortunately, that only benefits the GOP... and that benefits Trump... and that benefits Russia.

So what I want to know is, why would anyone want to say or do anything that ultimately benefits Russia? It's a fair question that deserves an honest and straightforward answer.

12. Straw Man Argument

It is a Straw Man Argument that supporting Bernie and his Progressive Policies benefits Russia. Why are Centrist Dems so afraid of Sanders and other Progressives like AOC? Diversity is part of the strength we have on the Left, not a weakness.

... about Democrats and the Democratic party... not actual "progressive policies". What an absurd thing to say! I'm not implying anything... I'm being very direct and forthcoming. I said what I meant and I meant what I said.

...talking about "Centrist Dems", as though that's a big bad thing. "Centrist Dems" are the majority of the Democratic Party.

As an aside, why did you capitalize so many words that would not normally be capitalized? Just asking for a friend.

Thanks!

19. Centrist Dems

Jan 2019

I don't have a problem with Centrist Dems. I have a problem with people who do not value Progressives in the Democratic Party or allied with the Democratic Party. I want Progressives and Centrists to work together against Trump and Republicans.

Yet anytime Sanders is involved in a thread, someone inevitably shows up to say (or imply) that Sanders or Progressives are somehow a threat to the Party and will get more Republicans elected. It is a false argument.

I mentioned AOC because I see a lot or the same arguments being made about her and her Progressive values. She often gets attacked for the same reasons as Sanders and by the same people.

I am a Democrat and I am a Progressive and I think there is enough room for everyone in a big tent Democratic Party. I don't denigrate Centrist Dems. I like many of them, including Nancy Pelosi, who is smart, tough, and effective.

Curious, don't you think?

PS - Nancy Pelosi is NOT a "Centrist Dem".

20. Capitalization

Jan 2019

Oh, and the reason I capitalize certain words that are not normally capitalized is because I want them to stand out and draw attention from the reader. But of course if you can't deal with the substance of an argument but resort to complaints about style, then maybe your original position is not that strong anyway.

I can understand that some more Centrist Dems do not much like Bernie for rocking the boat. I used to be more Centrist in my younger days, so I know.

That said, as I get older I am tired of waiting around for partial victories and slow compromises. We need change and soon. Bernie has cut through a lot of the BS and has moved Progressive ideas into the mainstream. More power to him and people like him.
