But being Canadian is no longer a guarantor of good treatment overseas. Not since the facts of the tarsands project have been in the news.

In fact, back in the early Reagan years, a lot of us in Michigan, Wisconsin & Minnesota were talking secession from the US, after which we were hoping to throw ourselves on the mercy of the Canadians & beg to be taken in.
