And if all of those who put him where he is, enabled him, acted on his behalf, etc. etc. are never identified and held responsible for this blitzkrieg of horror America has been living in.

The Obermann bit may be out of date, but John Harwood's recent reporting indicates some Repubs aren't confident DT would survive impeachment.

If he judges the risk of removal greater than 50%, I would expect DT to resign and declare victory (Just as he settles court cases and then declares victory.)

From Newsweek article

REPUBLICAN SENATE COULD SUPPORT DONALD TRUMP IMPEACHMENT, SAYS CNBC CORRESPONDENT

Discussing his conversation with Davis (NRCC Chair), Harwood said the former GOP Virginia congressmen believes some Republicans “will likely” join with Democrats on the impeachment front.

“It’s not impossible given what Mueller finds and how political circumstances deteriorate, that it’s not out of the question that a Senate could convict on impeachment charges,” Harwood added. “But we’re going to have to see what Mueller lays down.”

He could wait to see if he wins a second term. If not, resign after election and
Pence will pardon. The risk is Mueller's report implicating Pence.

I'm less sure now since the consequences are so dire for the poor lad: tanked reputation and brand, state investigations and charges--we know he thinks he has a get-out-of-jail-free card for the feds. But I think he's trapped and now he knows it, which he didn't a year ago--then I could see him saying that a) America is Great Again /Mission Accomplished or b) fake news/Democrats are so mean and unfair they are preventing me from Making America Great Again so I'm taking my ball and going home...thinking that if he just did that all his problems would just melt away. He always thought it was just a PR battle.

Now? Cornered like a rat.

. .. . Mueller has enough on Pence to get him to resign before 45* does. Then no pardon.

He will be leaving soon after a deal is made to protect his daughter from going to prison . Or if he refuses they'll send her to prison with them all. He knows its over.

If Trump 'won' an election unfairly, then his running mate is no more legitimate than he is - and nor are his party, his executive orders or his appointments.

Not only should they be removed from office, they should be prosecuted. The Republicans already have a habit of nominating a 'likeable' figurehead that they then go on to ignore. - would the last Republican administration have been upset if Bush had been removed and Cheney installed as President?

If that is the only consequence, then the party will continue to cheat in elections with a sacrificial leader in place.

Not only is this unethical, it places the US at a huge disadvantage. Having already lost the respect and support of allies, such a feeble response will just assure them that the Trump is not an abhoration, he is a fact of US politics. And the demonstration that the US is unsound.

Already Allies are regarding the US as a pariah. Unless it is proven to have cleansed itself, it will continue to be regarded as a nation unsafe to invest in, to sign treaties with or to share intelligence with.

When Cheney and Rumsfeld launched their 'regime change' in Iraq, they famously printed an entire pack of playing cards - 52 key players to be rounded up. They did not invade Baghdad and simply accept the resignation of the village idiot.
