Truman called in the troops to HELP people in trouble. I hope someday we again have a President instilled with compassion and empathy.

Thank you for posting that. Well worth watching.

I grew up in North Dakota. When I was 11 years old we had a huge blizzard. It was the "Blizzard of '66". A schoolmate of mine was the first reported casualty. Back then we were on a "party line" telephone, and that was our only link to the outside world during the storm. We were on the same party line as the girl's family, so we heard all of the details of the tragedy. I was extremely traumatized by the entire ordeal.

I've had to go back to North Dakota in the winter a few times through the years, but now all of my family members are gone, and I don't care to ever step foot in that state again. Now I live in beautiful Colorado. Of course we get the occasional winter storm where I live (front range), but the winter weather is generally pretty mild.

Of course who know what's going to happen in the coming years with the climate disaster we're in.

and I can tell you I've been through some pretty intense storms thanks to lake effect snow storms. This put the 5 to 10 ft snow drifts, howling winds, and whiteouts into perspective.

I thought that at 11 years old it was impressive when I got lost between the barn and the house during a whiteout and ended up digging into a snowdrift by some snow fence and spent the night there. Compared to this, my situation was not a really big deal.

Wow.
