Glenn Greenwald On What Western Countries Can Learn From the Balsinaro Election

Openness, at this point, about other countries' swing to the right, is useful.

One way I see this: Why GG seems to endorse the end of a center left democracy, and how he understands retrograde fascist governance, coincides with the way the Kochs want the U.S. to understand the failures of democratic majority rule.

Another way I see this: Understanding is the booby prize. Even if it's a current events lesson.

Enjoy your divided population's class war, Glenn.

I'll be watching what good your politics does for Brazil's People, and how the establishment class deals with you.

He may have benefited from the Left's support for Gay Rights, but there is no money to be made from supporting our agenda over the long haul. He can always find a new home if the social environment gets too toxic for his personal beliefs.

2. Agreed. And yet, many leftists are rich enough to be seen as part of the failed establishment.

It will be interesting to watch where a moral center lies within a military junta's rule as an answer to corrupt democratic rule. And how Bolsinaro serves all the people of the country.

If Brazilians think they are being invaded by powers who want to exploit their land base resources, I can't fault them for that.

It was their election. We should watch. Perhaps there really are lessons to learn here.

I'm not trying to prioritize Greewald's character over what he's talking about here.

I don't trust Greenwald's politics, but when he applies his intellect to an outlook on the country he lives in, I'll err, for now, on wanting to know his take on Brazilian governance over what I've read so far.

First, indigenous populations that have no power. Then those who don't look and act like "us" (whatever that definition will be). GG will soon find things not very comfortable for him and his boyfriend....but he has options.

and my grieving young Argentinian friend's reaction.

I also understand that the universities' academic freedoms and left leanings have been under siege since the start of 2018. A softer version of it is going on in Argentina's universities under their current president who, along with Trump, called to offer his congrats.

He and Milo should enjoy their cloistered life as RW enablers. There were plenty of examples in Hitler's Germany.

Donald Trump did not win the electoral college vote because working class voters were angry and the elites who would not change. The main reason Donald Trump won the electoral college vote was voter suppression. The next reason Trump won the electoral vote is that their was a large number of people angry that President Obama, a black man, had been elected to the presidency twice. It has been pointed out on multiple occasion that the largest majority of Trump's supporters voted for him because they were worried/angry about America's changing demographics. The majority of the people who voted for Trump were not worried about economic problems, or elites who were not willing to change a bad system; they were angry that they were being asked to share with people who did not look like them and they were happy that someone was finally telling them they were right to not want to share with those who did not look like them. They also understood what Make America Great Again actually meant. They knew that it meant bringing up back a time when everyone did not have to be treated equally.
