This clip is from movie, "The Free State of Jones".
The clip is the 1st time black men voted in Jones County, Mississippi in 1875, post Civil War and the end of slavery.
If you have not seen the movie, I highly recommend watching it. I have seen it a few times now, it is that good. This movie taught me a lot about the civil war and slavery in a way I did not know.
GOTV! People died for this right. GOTV!

(4,079 posts)"The State of Jones," the book on which the movie is based, is excellent. I bought and read it when it first came out a few years ago. Even though I am normally a very slow reader I devoured this one in a couple of days.
Matthew McConaughey went to my high school. He graduated six years after me so I never knew him, but my brother used to play basketball with his brother. (I guess that's my brush with greatness . )
Perhaps I should watch this movie.

(4,079 posts)I promise, my family members are doing their part. My three brothers, their wives, and my four nieces and nephews who still live their and are old enough to vote will be voting for Beto. Several aunts and cousins will be doing their parts as well. I must admit I'm nervous about that race, but knowing my family will all be voting correctly is helpful.
My brothers and I (as well as MM) graduated from Longview High School in East Texas, but none of us still live there. And if I did I would have to move. It's Louis Gohmert's district. I would eat my shoe before I would allow myself or any loved ones to be represented by that inbred moron.
