Greetings,

I was not alive when he wrote it, and didn't hear the song until the 90's, but I've always felt "Baby Blue" was the United States of America, written as we were in the midst of yet another failing military operation as a result of yet another failed attempt at nation-building.

For what it's worth...

Peace, Love & Resistance,
Erik

but we often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door that we do not see the one which has opened for us.

We are all due beer and travel money and many experiences, but it's a tough slog at times.

Over 58,000 American deaths and over 3 million Vietnamese deaths. For nothing.

"All your seasick sailors they are rowing home."

“All these people you have messed about with, everyone you have played with, they are all lost too. You can’t go round doing this sort of thing – at least not here. Leave, get yourself sorted. Find your own life. Time to go babe.”

When the album first was released there were no lyrics printed on the sleeve and to learn the words to the songs you had to listen to the album many, many times. Often the words were misheard. For a long time, I thought that the lines, “The highway is for gamblers, you better use your sense,” was You better use your sins. I still like it like that.
