(15,057 posts)At least, that's what I've seen in my lifetime. IMO, Republicans are not part of the same species as the rest of us. They are predators who will pounce on anyone who has more than them. And they will take anything and everything else they can lay their hands on.
Yet, millions of Americans don't get this. They don't understand that they are being victimized by Republicans. They don't understand that Republicans will fuck them out of everything they have in an instant.
This is the party of "values." This is the party that peddles the crap that "God is an American."
As a devout agnostic, I have no idea whether or not there's a "god." But it seems to me that if such a being existed, he/she/it sure as hell wouldn't be a Republican. -- But who knows? We may be living in a totally fucked up version of reality.

(33,414 posts)The RepubliCON party is the biggest contributor to the debt. Therefore, instead of robbing the elderly and sick, let's tax the CONs' salaries and benefits and pensions at 100% until the national debt is retired.
A good, sound business solution.

(21,718 posts)They borrowed from the SS fund. When they have to pay it back, it will hit the debt.
ProfessorPlum
(11,276 posts)that SS is self-funding. Those bonds are assets that SS owns, which it can (and will) use to fund itself. But they were bought with the cash coming in from Social Security. Self-funded.

(11,276 posts)Social Security is forbidden by law to build up a pile of cash, and instead has to invest that money (which was created by the Tip O'Neil/Ronald Reagan compromise in the early 80s to solve SS's baby boomer funding gap (by sticking it to working people, naturally)) in these special bonds.
I would _love_ to be sitting on top of a pile of US Bonds, wouldn't you?
When you say "They" you mean the federal government, and not the social security program, right? Because Social Security is self-funded. The US government is welcome to get the money to pay SS from wherever they would like, it isn't SS's problem and it isn't the widows, orphans, blind people, disabled people, or retired people's problem. BECAUSE SS HAS ALREADY FUNDED ITSELF and continues to do so.
Social Security is self-funding. Get it into your brain and bloodstream.
MiniMe
(21,718 posts)That is where the problem will come in, paying back the debt that is owed SS. The money is there and invested, but where they invested it is the problem now
ProfessorPlum
(11,276 posts)The government has to pay off those bonds just like it has to pay off the millions of other bond holders that hold our trillions in national debt. Bonds are one of the safest investments. The only way there is a problem is if the US stops paying all of its debts, in which case the country is over. And then SS will be the least of our problems.
The only problem SS has is if America ceases to be. Or you let some lying politician steal it from you. You aren't going to let that happen, are you?

(23,155 posts)Any elderly person who votes for these Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security thieves is truly an ignorant deplorable. Hopefully those are passing or have become more educated. I have an elderly repug friend who is all in, except on this one issue. She hates Rick Scott because of what he did and will hate her congressmen and Senators as well if they do this. She thinks they just say this when they can't get it done and wouldn't really pass it without Democrats on board, I think she's deceiving herself. Lucky for her she has some money stashed away from when she was a small business operator, so it won't hurt her as bad. It would totally devastate me and most of the working class over 62.

(4,292 posts)The RepubliCONs are already promising more and bigger tax cuts after the mid-term elections. Thats how they including baby donnie get the 1%-ers (read: beneficiaries of this wealth redistribution ponzie scheme) to bankroll their campaigns.
We must get out the vote in 2 weeks, 6 days. If not before via mail ballots and early polls.

(12,821 posts)Oh that's right - it's not supposed to, not for regular Americans. As a massive transfer of wealth to the rich, it works great; but then it's not really trickle DOWN, is it? But, it's that way by design: by the rich, for the rich.
