(7,828 posts)that the men quoted in the first half of this essay all want the new rules written out for them. They want to know what they can and can't do, what they can and can't say. They demand to be catered to, so they will have an iron clad way to protect their own careers.
No one ever says, behave as though every woman you work with were your mother, or your sister, or your daughter. Assuming you observe a measure of respect and decorum with at least your mother and your daughter. Behave as though you really do respect these co-workers as workers, as colleagues, as people trying to make a living in your place of business. Behave like a civilized human being. Embrace civility.
There aren't any rules except the ones you know already: don't verbally harass, don't physically assault. You could also try (this is a thought exercise) thinking what you would feel like if someone said or did this to you.

(20,763 posts)There are plenty of pieces like this on the Intertoobs.
And stop making it womens' responsibility to tell you what you should be able to figure out pretty easily: If women are fully human, rather than objects for the service and enjoyment of men, THEN TREAT THEM LIKE OTHER PEOPLE WHO AREN'T THERE FOR YOUR SERVICE AND ENJOYMENT.
