The chlorine reacts with the nitrogen in pee to form a chemical which burns your eyes and lungs and produces that familiar odor which can be found at any public pool.

cow poop from the farm 10 miles up stream and the people who are swimming 1 mile upstream from you. I hate to say this but I think I will brave the pool.

And I haven't had the option to go in a private pool, but don't think I'd do that, either. But then I don't like to swim.

because the chlorine burns it off.
