Fresh from DuPage County, IL. This loony Republican official always goes into tirades, but this week he was in top form during public comment.
Never forget - politics is local.

(1 post)No one would believe how unprofessional these elected officials are if it wasn't recorded. I'm glad to do my part in recording all of the meetings. I wish this sort of blowout wasn't a rare occurrence. Pierotti is under a lot of pressure because the District is under investigation by the FBI for authorizing allegedly fraudulent contracts, to the tune of nearly half a million dollars. (9 posts)It must be certain that everyone knows Pierotti is lying when he accuses Kirchenberg of only going to meetings to make critical statements. Kirchenberg has been working hard for decades to help protect the trees, trails and trail users. He served as a volunteer as President of the IL Prairie Path for over 7 years and on the organization's board of directors for 9. He is also the ongoing Voluntary Chairman of the Friends of the Great Western Trails. He founded the Friends of the GWTs group and has been leading it for 12 years to the benefit of the trail, trail users and surrounding communities.
In addition he lead the fight for the preservation of over 8 acres of unique forest in DuPage County. This property was saved from a proposed development of 46 townhomes with a new street crossing on the Ill Prairie path in Glen Ellyn. This land is now the Glacial Ridge Forest Preserve of DuPage County. It is a unique and some say important part of DuPage County because it was never developed and offers groupings of trees that they do not even have at the Morton Arboretum.

(28 posts)Why does President (or now known as Professor) Pierotti yell at someone who dares to ask questions during public comment about what has been reported by the BGA, etc? From attending many meetings over the years my best guess and I am not a doctor or want to be one is that he is pathological liar. It is sad but true.
He has lied so much he believes it. And he has to be embarrased that the corruption investigation has now gotten beyond the Republican DuPage County states attorney and up to the FBI level.
liberalinDuPageCty
(22 posts)Why is he yelling? If he kept quiet as the rules state he should than there would be less attention paid to the FBI investigation, big bonus paid to the Executive Director and his closed door meeting and discussion of closing down the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County.

(22 posts)At yesterday's (9/11/12) meeting of the FPD of DC during public comment Steve Leopoldo made some really good comments about their procurement policies that have not been changed since the 80's. Pierotti kept his head down (probably in shame) during Steve's comments.
When he and the Commissioners are asked questions they should act interested and hopefully respond with ideas on how they may serve that constituent or help solve the overall issue/problem being raised.

Note newspapers are in a tough business and the one sure revenue source they still have is advertisement from government agencies. By law these agencies must post certain transactions in the newspapers and the newspapers make a good amount of money from these multipage postings that are advertised on a regular basis. We need to let these newspapers know that we want this important investigation covered. And we want them to ask why Pierotti is lying and allowed to intimidate citizens while the Commissioners sit silent
liberalinDuPageCty
(22 posts)Pierotti is the focus of these discussions as he should be because he is their "leader" and no Commissioner has decided to ask a single question (if they are in attendance) let alone take any action. But the Commissioners should be what we are concerned about. Now maybe because I am liberal I say let's layoff the corrupt old man and look at the either corrupt or lazy Commissioners. All 6 Commissioners are up for reelection. Look at who is running at see that the other political party (the Democratics) has on the ballot so they can provide the needed checks and balances for the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County.

(28 posts)This election for 6 different Commissioners of the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County is different.
Here is how different the election on Tuesday 11/6/12 is:
> The FBI is investigating the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County.
> 3 Class X felony indictments have been issued for 6 years of theft from our Forest Preserve District of DuPage County.
> President Pierotti of the same Forest Preserve District of DuPage County is cracking under the pressure of good candidates asking questions and the FBI investigating an agency of government in DuPage County for the first time.
> There are 6 very good candidates challenging the GOPbot Commissioner incumbents or candidates.
> Questions remain whether or not more or how many more indictments will come from the investigation of the illegal contract for $500,000.
> We the voters can change how our 25,000+ acres are managed and the how the $42 Million budget is spent.

(10 posts)Typically when the FBI finds wrong doing they offer options other than indictments and trial. They let banks, big wall street types and unions setup some kind of merger to close down the bad operations. That has to be what is going on here with the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County. Pierotti is trying to cut a deal and close down the FPD of DC. And if he closes it early before the FBI presents their case to a grand jury etc. he will protect his legacy since he is retiring.
Cronin is smart and smells a bad deal with the proposed merger with the FPD of DC. Expect Cronin to run for higher office soon based on his verbage when you hear him talk about the DuPage County budget, etc. He won't get close to the corrupt operations of the FPD of DC!

(20 posts)Dewey's anger speaks volumes about the importance of asking questions and the willingness of Don Kirchenberg to ask tough questions. (5 posts)I have seen dewey, the current president of the DuPage Forest, do this to a number of people. Old, young, usually men. He must have a mental problem and this must be an embarrassment to the republican party in DuPage. What is interesting and sad at the same time is that no one on the Board or even the overpaid general counsel can stop him or even attempt to halt the rude, unprofessional and down right out of line with all meeting procedure behavior. (9 posts)It is unfortunate that the President of the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County continues to break the rules and try to intimidate citizens. He reminds me of "Daley the first" which is not a good thing. The important matter is that the story about the FBI's investigation, closed door meetings and Pierotti's attempt to fold the Forest Preserve District of DC back into DuPage County's operations (to probably avoid penalties and maybe indictments?) is being discussed. And while they are being discussed the voters will hopefully realize that the current Commissioners whether they are in attendance or not (Commissioner Cantore District 2 was absent again) don't speak up. Not one Commissioner spoke up about these important issues during that meeting on 8-14-12 and they have not for the many months and years I have been attending their meetings.

This terrible atmosphere and treatment of citizens and volunteers has to stop. I cannot tell you how many times pierotti has said he does not interrupt anyone during public comment, but anytime someone says anything that points out mis-management of "his" forest preserve he launches an attack. (10 posts)Forest Preserve President Pierroti gave the Executive Director an extra $50,000 in severance over the $74,000 he received saying yes he is only partly responsible for the problems with the illegal contract, etc. These "problems" was a theft that went on for 6 years. So 6 years of theft/problems got him an extra $50,000. If there was more theft for a longer period of time would he have gotten more money?
More importantly why wouldn't any of the 6 Commissioners (well really 5 because Commissioner Cantore District 2 is hardly there) ask about this extra bonus or any of the problems with 6 years of theft? Not a word has been said about this at any meetings of the Forest Preserve Commission of Du Page County. (22 posts)According to Adam Morgan in his article in Chicagoland Outdoors titled "Trouble in the Forest: FBI Looks Into DuPage Preserve Scandal, District President Goes On Angry Tirade." Adam closes with this...
President Pierotti then ridicules Don for what he said at a meeting last week, "that Mr. [Brent] Manning and this board was [sic] being investigated by the FBI, which is nothing further from the truth. So why don't you check your facts."
Don then politely asks if he can finish. President Pierotti says "you can do anything you damn well please."
So Don asks why the President and Commissioners of the Forest Preserve won't publicly discuss Manning's bonus or the idea of closing the district.
"Are you idiotic?" Pierotti replies. "You're like the locusts, you come around every 17 years," he says, then repeats that Brent Mannings was never questioned by the FBI, and boasts that he's never had an accusation regarding the Forest Preserve substantiated by the State's Attorney's office or the FBI.
Before Don can continue, President Pierotti waves him off, saying "that's enough, I don't wanna talk anymore. I got a root canal I have to do today, I shouldn't even be here and put up with this."
He must have had quite the toothache.
Regardless of the investigation, and Brent Manning or President Pierotti's role in it (and President Pierotti's thin grasp on English grammar), this is no way to conduct oneself as an elected civil servant. Especially not towards a member of the community during a public forum. And judging from videos of other public meetings, Don isn't the only "locust" in DuPage County who's concerned.
Speaking of, locusts do not appear once every 17 years. Some cicadas do, but they belong to a completely different taxonomic order.###

(20 posts)It is that simple. Dewey Pierotti is a liar. And he lied when he said his record of no illegal closed meetings in 20 years ia another lie! Just a few weeks ago the Attorney General of IL has told them to stop having closed meetings breaking the Open Meetings act.

(58 posts)I think the press is reluctant to cover the rants of geriatric gibberish.
Look at how the media handled President Reagan. He'd snooze during cabinet meetings, apply Grecian Formula weekly, stop his workday at 5 pm, rely on Nancy's hearing and participate in bad ventriloquist acts to pretend he wasn't going deaf, and the media pretty much gave the old man a pass and he was a full 10 years younger when he took office than DP is now.

(22 posts)I agree Pierotti should apologize to Kirchenberg and all the citizens he should be serving NOT yelling at them. (5 posts)A "real job"? These guys especially their clueless leader (not fearless but clueless) has made it rich in "public service." Dewey Pierotti gets $107,000 a year plus full time benefits and a taxpayer supported pension. A candidate for Commissioner (Kirchenberg in Dist 2) is proposing the Commissioners get paidy $25,000 instead of their current pay of $53,500. That's a good start! (20 posts)Like in Cook County where it is controlled by the Dems the DuPage County problems are caused by one political party in total control. The Republican control of the Forest Preserve District with the 6 weak Commissioners (really 5 since Commissioner Joe Cantore District 2 rarely attends) is a lot like the Cook County Board when Todd Stroger was in control! Sad but true.
Since the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County was separated from the DuPage County Board they have allowed these questionable practices:
$ Annual salaries of more than $53,000 with a taxpayer subsidized pension and full time benefits for a part time job.
$ Hiring of family members for well paying jobs.
$ Award of millions of our tax dollars in non-competitive contracts.
$ Accepted unlimited campaign donations from companies doing business with the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County.
We need a better Forest Preserve District in DuPage County! Please tell any like minded voter you know in DuPage County about these abuses! It can change with new Commissioners elected on 11/6/12!

He was wrong during his crazy defense in this video about his perfect record of no illegal closed door meetings. Here is more info: http://lisle.patch.com/announcements/illinois-attorney-general-issues-binding-opinion-against-dupage-forest-preserve
Let other people know about his lies! And more importantly let other people know that there is now a very good alternative to the 6 commissioners that just sit there if they attend.
Change is Coming
(5 posts)King pierotti of the DuPage Forest Preserve lies about everything. During the election of 2010 a reporter asked during an interview about all the signs with his name at the entrance of many forest preserves. He told the reporter that he did not know they were being installed and when he found out, he order it stopped and the signs to be taken down. He went on to say that the staff showed him that it would cost more to take them down than to leave them up, so he paid for the signs and they were left up. The reporter printed this wild stuff in the paper. Gee, a simple FOIA showed that there was no study or no payment from king pierotti; just more lies.

(1 post)pierotti and his forest preserve is like the wizard of oz with his powerful outburst, crushing all that get in his way and hiding behind a cloak of secrecy and political ways. During the last election he tried to pick a fight with the candidate running against him while they were on forest preserve grounds....remember this is a forest preserve with its own police department....a bad position to be in for the candidate. He attacked the candidate verbally for campaigning while on forest preserve grounds. But he let the person running against Sen. Cronin for the county chair position pass out literature all day and many said that pierotti was passing out lit also. Funny that the now Chairman Cronin turned pierotti down when he went crawling to him on his knees to help call off the FBI investigation.
Change is Coming
(5 posts)Many concerned citizens have made public comment about the no-bid contracts up to $500,000 that king pierotti awards to his favorite contractors - only to be told that the State makes the forest preserve get no-bid contracts. What an asshole pierotti must be...who would believe that. I think he has said it so many times, and he only listens to himself talk, that he really believes it. The State reg says you can, not that you must. I guess the forest preserves overpaid general counsel that makes $400,000 for a part time job was really read between the lines on this one to help his employer - king pierotti. These no-bid contracts allow the king pierotti leand board to over pay for work and then for king pierotti and other board members to accept campaign contributions from those same no-bid contracts reciptiants. This are local election so the money is not that great, but in one fund raiser during the 2010 election he raised about $35,000 and $28,000 was from vendors that do no-bid contract work with king pierotti and "his" forest preserve. The forest preserve is the most corrupt governmental organization in DuPage County....must be an embrassment to the repubs to see the FBI and the BGA are investigating the all republican run forest preserve. It is time for a change....let's vote out all incumbents. The new board members will not have ties to king pierotti and just perhaps we could make the world a better place....remember to vote and vote out the old guard and those political insiders with family deep into politics.

(20 posts)President Pierotti gets $107,000 a year and the 6 Commissioners get $53,500 a year for part time positions which includes full time benefits and a taxpayer subsidized pension. They are getting this whether or not they ask questions. That is outrageous! In addition, they accept campaign contributions from companies doing business with the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County. That is unethical and should be illegal.
ALL 6 COMMISSIONERS are up for reelection this year. Three old Republican Commissioners (Schultz, Formento and Kotecki) are heading out the door only to be replaced by new do nothing GOPbots. In contrast for the first time there are 6 qualified candidates running for Commissioner from the Democratic party. They all have experience in volunteering and working with forest preserves, trails and restoration of them. Give them your consideration and some money since none of them will take money from any company doing business with the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County.

(22 posts)He is all talk and no action unless "action" means he likes to give away our hard earned tax dollars? For example he gave the former Executive Director Bent Manning $50,000+ extra tax dollars as a going away present even though he was in charge while a contract for $488,000 was given to a company that folded as soon as any questions were asked about it. When will the Commissioners ask about these deals that costs us taxopayers too much money? (22 posts)President Pierotti has been around over 20 years and that is probably 2 four year terms ago too long! We need term limits for any elected position. In this video while he is attempting to intimidate Don Kirchenberg he sounds like Mayor Daley the first and that is not a good thing in case you don't know. We need term limits for the President and Commissioners unless Pierotti cuts a deal with the FBI and shuts them down to fold them back into DuPage County general government and avoids big indictments from the FBI.
WeNeedBetterGovernmt
(25 posts)The 6 Commissioners just sit there! And that doesn't change during the meeting. They get paid $53,500 a year for maybe a thousand hours a year. And they get full-time level health benefits plus a taxpayer subsidized pension! Pierotti get $107,000 plus the benefits, pension and a car allowance. This is too much for very little work!
WeNeedBetterGovernmt
(25 posts)All 6 Commissioners are up for reelection. Look at who is running at see that the other political party (the Democratics) has on the ballot so they can provide the needed checks and balances for the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County.

(20 posts)The way they are making money for themselves besides the excessive pay, benefits and a taxpayer subsidized pension is to take money from companies doing business with the forest preserve district! This "incestuous plan" keeps them in office so far!

1. Augment the war chests of the President and Board members, particularly by county vendors, who in return shall be awarded generous no-bid contracts. The circle of love cannot be broken.
2. Keep nepotism alive and well.
3. Hire spinners to keep the media and public focused on happy things, such as corn husk dolls and hayrides, instead of toxic waste, horse abuse and corruption.
4. Avoid controversy on a given project by quietly setting forth on the evil goal in small increments. Shh...
5. Develop, develop, develop... (See # 1 circle of love...)
6. Make sure no Democrats win so that the plan isn't exposed, aborted and prosecuted.
7. Always, always, always make as much money and benefits as possible off the taxpayers while claiming to be in favor of small government and low taxes.
8. Maintain good relations with the state's attorney's office and judges because you just never know...

(20 posts)This level of interest, the list of comments and the content of comments is very impressive! What isn't is the continued denial of the FBI's investigation into the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County. In recent "news articles" published in the Patch which are press releases from the FPD of DC's publicity consultants called Reverse Spin (crazy but true) they state the FBI was "called in." The FBI does not get called in when there is a fraudulent contract of $488,000 awarded to a make believe company.Recent indictments announced last week are just the "tip of the iceberg." This iceberg will suffer a fate worse than global warming when the FBI is done with their investigation.
