(54,420 posts)Being deservedly brutal isn't enough if there is no humor or wit, and she was sub-par on both. All she had to do was basically repeat Obama's speech taking down Trump, and she would have been way more effective (and funnier, too).

(115,783 posts)While her targets deserved skewering, she didn't skewer them so much as bludgeon them. I was hoping for more of a Colbert-type performance but she wasn't even close. Overall I just didn't think she was very funny.

I must admit I really enjoyed watching SHS squirm. And Kellyanne looked a little flummoxed too.

Can't decide if I have gained or lost respect for her.
Did she jump or was she pushed?

(7,530 posts)But I love Target because you sometimes don't realize you needed to know the history of the Byzantine Empire.

(4,079 posts)I must admit some her "jokes" just weren't very funny. But that one was.
I also liked, "Oh yeah. Ann Coulter."

(7,530 posts)But that's not a bad thing - Rachel Maddow does long-form journalism that you don't see much of nowadays, and sometimes that hyperbolically requires "First there was nothing, and then a big bang. Then the suns cooled and dinosaurs ruled the earth..."
That and the fact I seriously have gone to Target MANY TIMES intending to buy sunscreen and some gum and emerging with groceries for a week, patio furniture, and a television set.

(1,737 posts)She was awesome! Zing... So fitting for the s*hole, broke treasonous, pussy grabbing pResident, his cabinet (Ali baba and the 40 thieves) and the mostly fickle and weak members of the media who covers them. All in all, this is just a roast. This is what good roasting looks like. I LOVED IT.
Sanity Claws
(21,850 posts)I had to look her up to find out what kind of regional accent she had. The way she pronounced "a" was very grating. She is from Hershey, PA.
A grating voice in a comedian probably helps make her distinctive. In most other professions it is a hindrance.
At one point, Sara Sanders looked like she was going to cry. Sara deserves harsh treatment but let's face it, Sara is an idiot. You don't engage in a game of wits with an idiot.

(54,035 posts)I expect White House reporters to be rough on Sarah Huckabee Sanders. But comedians need to punch up
Kolesar
(31,182 posts)That gets you upset??
Bucky
(54,035 posts)And how dense do you have to try to ignore the body shaming connotation of that "eyeshadow joke" using the phrase "burns fats."
At the end of the day, this was tribal humor. It's meant to divide. It's just not my cup of tea. I'll enjoy a joke against rich people or against a corrupt government. But when you pick on a woman for her looks, you're getting close to bully territory.
swishyfeet
(1,156 posts)She's shaming lies, not bodies.
Kolesar
(31,182 posts)Yes, let's let Bucky pen the perfect social humor with pathos in the mileau of our ethos. We'll be watching!

(7,530 posts)It's not as grating because it seems she's been a speaker and worked to avoid it in her career, but I am quite sure she needed a few drinks before taking that podium to relax a bit, and that's when people occasionally slip into their regional speech patterns.

(18,124 posts)of fresh air, angry and not afraid to show it. Nothing lame about this true example of 'RESIST'. True lampoon hurts huh sarah? I wouldn't trade that look on hucksters face for anything. Thank You Ms. Wolf. "and Flint still doesn't have fresh water". Great timely, relevant lampoon of everyone of the lying cowards who delivered this monster of a potus and his GOP Party/whole administration into our laps.
Plucketeer
(12,882 posts)was artfully crafted and sweetly savored. Wham - Bam - Thank you mam! I was brought up to be polite and respectful...... then I went out into the world. It took awhile for it to sink in that not everyone was brought up with the same values I had. But a few good drubbings eventually imparted to me, the truth about giving as good as you might get.
This talented and gutsy lady just farted in the faces of the EVIL cabal we're currently enduring. Her farts smelled SWEET from this side of my monitor. I only wish she'd had more time to go on about all the idiots we've seen come and go in the past year. I sure hope we hear more from her. She tells a pretty good "yarn"!

(52,165 posts)In particular when she did the how broke is Trump bit. She was on the vulgar side at times but honestly I don't think she took any horribly cheap shots. The writing was mostly good but she is clearly learning the craft of delivery or else was very nervous.

(39,377 posts)The good ones get that ratio right.
Liked the Pence/Cooper line the best.
infullview
(981 posts)She could have made all of her political points without the toilet humor. It lessens her delivery a lot. Good humor is when the joke is delivered and it takes a second or two for the punch line to hit.

(31,177 posts)jokes aside (many of which were not appropriate IMO), her comedic timing is a bit off and she does a terrible job selling them. EPIC FAIL, and I would imagine a big career mistake on her part.

(31,177 posts)I won't watch either. She's not ready for prime time.
I can't imagine why she was selected unless they couldn't find anyone else.

(45,477 posts)Agreed, there are many better female comediennes out there who would be a better choice. She even joked that they clearly didn't research her when they booked her and she must have got the gig because they wanted a woman.

(14,175 posts)Just watched it for the first time. Every joke wasn't fall down funny, but when she swung the bat it hit hard.
Loved it. And I love how a comedian can be as rude as they like now in talking about Republicans now that Trump has crossed that bar. And they can't really criticize it if they don't want to look like absolute hypocrites.
And calling out SHS and KAC liars was priceless.
