We need to do away with at will employment. An employer should always have to give a reason for firing an employee. And the employee should be able to challenge the employer about that.

Being fired from a job for no reason is a serious thing. It means that when you apply for future jobs, you have to list the employer who fired you for a reason or a whim you don't understand on all your future job applications. And that employer can say anything about you (although some states may limit what employers can say about past employees) and you will never know why getting future jobs is so difficult.

An employer should be required to give an employee who has been fired or let go a letter signed by the employer or boss explaining why the employee was fired. And no future employer should be permitted (at the expense of being sued) to call that previous employer and ask for any other reason for the firing or laying off or any other information about the employee. If the employee did something wrong, then the employer should talk to the employee about it and not just sabotage the employee's future.

Much of the bitterness in the American workforce is due to the fact that American workers have so little say in what goes on in the workplace. The conditions that the Jet Blue employees were working under, the low pay they received when they showed up and had to wait in the airport for example, were unacceptable. No one should have to work or even just wait for $2 per hour.

Please watch this video. Working conditions in America are deplorable. It's no wonder people in jobs that are that deplorable vote for Trump. We Democrats need to stand up for them and give them much more hope.
