(62,444 posts)There is a reason why sports car and NASCAR races don't start with the cars standing still.
Of course electric motors don't have the torque curve that internal combustion engines do, but a better comparison would be against drag racing vehicles if you want to compare standing starts.

(59 posts)The reason NASCAR uses a rolling start is because they consider it safer than a standing start as do most America racing sanctioning organizations. Formula One , like most racing series outside the US, use standing starts.
I'm guessing you want to compare the electric car's acceleration to a Top Fuel dragster because the dragster would cream the electric car and you would get some sort of satisfaction out of that.

(62,444 posts)Jeezus, get a grip.
I actually don't know which would win, and I still assume it would be the electric car. While I guess my mention of torque curve flew right over your head, the weight to torque of an electric motor is likely going to beat an internal combustion engine any time.
Good fucking golly. Unwind a little.

(8,976 posts)Nascar 12-15 seconds. Electric vehicle ????? OOOh, he's gonna lose a lap or so...

(32,723 posts)You would have a quick change battery pack.
Or,...here's a thought. Have the pit stop be an area you drive through without stopping that has a pickup rail to send the battery a boost.

(16,296 posts)NASCAR will NEVER approve of this as a substitute for those gasoline laden firebombs that go ROAR-ROAR around the track. Where would be the rolling, burning thrills the crowds love to see? Bubba needs to see those things xplode, hell yah. Where would be the fun ? This is nothing more than an evil plot to deny another avenue of entertainment to our Redneck brothers.

(33,982 posts)That said, the Nascar would have eaten either car alive on lap 2.
Would I buy one? I think I would be most likely to buy the X1, even though the Atom is a fantastic platform itself.

We're getting closer to the day (although still far away), when gas powered vehicles will go the way of the horse-drawn carriage.
And yes Mitt, "You cant drive a car with a windmill on it" (hmm, maybe though), but you can drive a car with power, from a windmill.
