(7,725 posts)SO sick of it. And her. Funny how they have these human behavior, normalization realizations when it hurts them personally. These are the people who TELL us how to live, or literally, 'were going to hell w zero redemption'. F off McCain. Do as I say, not as I do. We need to quit giving these folks a platform. We always want to be fair, but, it hurts us immeasurably. Let's shut down the 'equal time bit' until we have a LIBERAL GOVT and way of living. Insurance, fair drug and justice system, fair wages...THEN give them a pedestal, and see if folks want to go back to the GOP Taliban days. This two steps forward, three steps back way of moving our country ahead is killing us. Mind, Body, and Soul. They don't fight fair, and respectfully, neither should we. (in regards to equal time etc. ) Sinclairs here now. Once it's locked in....we're one huge step closer to the point of no return. If you are too chicken to fight, say so. But keep quiet and let the folks who ARE WILLING, carry YOUR load...AGAIN.

From now on, we'd like transcripts please and the right to say, the lords forgive you, but you swore an oath to us as well, and we DON'T forgive you. Part of the "social pact" thing.

(24,931 posts)The McCains' marriage began to falter due to his extramarital affairs.[30] John McCain's next assignment was to the Senate Liaison Office within the Navy's Office of Legislative Affairs.[31] The McCains separated briefly, then rejoined.[21] His job was aided by the social life the couple conducted, entertaining Navy, government, and other people three to four nights a week at their Alexandria, Virginia home.[32] During this time she worked for Congressman John H. Rousselot.[33] By 1979, the McCains were still living together.[21]
In April 1979, John McCain began a relationship with Cindy Lou Hensley, an Arizona special education teacher and Hensley & Co. heiress.[21] John McCain pushed to end the marriage, and friends described Carol as being in shock.[21] The McCains stopped cohabiting in January 1980; he filed for divorce in February 1980,[12] which she accepted.[21] When asked by a friend what had gone wrong, she said, "It's just one of those things."[21] The uncontested divorce became official in Fort Walton Beach on April 2, 1980.[34]
John McCain would later say, "My marriage's collapse was attributable to my own selfishness and immaturity more than it was to Vietnam, and I cannot escape blame by pointing a finger at the war. The blame was entirely mine."[30] Carol McCain later said, "The breakup of our marriage was not caused by my accident or Vietnam or any of those things. I don't know that it might not have happened if John had never been gone. I attribute it more to John turning 40 and wanting to be 25 again than I do to anything else."[30] McCain's biographer Robert Timberg believes that "Vietnam did play a part, perhaps not the major part, but more than a walk-on."[35] John put it this way: "I had changed, she had changed ... People who have been apart that much change."[35] Ross Perot later said, "After he came home, he walked with a limp, she [Carol McCain] walked with a limp. So he threw her over for a poster girl with big money from Arizona [Cindy McCain, his current wife] and the rest is history."[23] Carols three children were initially upset with John McCain about the divorce, but later reconciled.[21]
But at least he married the woman he was in an affair with and didn't pay her off. Right Meghan ?

(1,639 posts)The basic observation made by Ms. McCain is not inaccurate. Such behavior by people in power long pre-dates our democracy.
It has been argued that the same personal drives that spur some into seeking political power tend to intensify a person's libido.
My main critique of Ms. McCain's statement is the point touched on by others. Those who bellow the loudest about morality--and it is always sexual morality that concerns them, are continually supporting laws and policies that are meant to interfere in other people's-- highly personal--sexual expression.
And then, when the Moralizers' hands are caught in the cookie jar--which they so often are--it is time to accept human flaws and separate private behavior from public scrutiny and concern.
By the way, does anyone know offhand how much money was spent on the Starr Report investigating Clinton? I have often thought of the report as a very expensive piece of self-righteous porn.
You know, the person getting the details makes disapproving noises indicating the he or she is thoroughly scandalized, while making sure that they don't miss any one of those "disgusting" details.
