Schumer & Pelosi press conference on Omnibus Spending Bill

The talk about the substance of the bill starts at 17.00.

Trumpers & The Freedom Caucus will have a fit listening to this, as Schumer lists the positives from a Dem Party point of view, and as they listen to all the (gasp!) spending.

Pelosi is at 23:20, where she explains why the Repubs did the bill on a fast track & not the regular three-day order, was because they didn't want their colleagues to see what was in the bill. (a little zinger there)

And from a rightwingnut point of view, you can check out, on your own, reactions by Ann Coulter & Rush Limpballs, for funsies.

I think I'm beginning to get this Schumer-Trump relationship. They are both big guys in New York. The spending bill gives NY $60 BILLION for a tunnel, but doesn't fund the Mexican border wall (well, a small amt for repairing existing fencing and such). There's something else in the bill for NY, but nothing for the Repub immigration issue or low-income programs in education. So altho Trump didn't write the bill (of course...can he write?), he would not have been opposed to big bucks for NY. What's good for NY is good for Trump.

Very interesting. I pretty much trust Schumer and Pelosi, so I'm feeling better about this bill. Of course, it would be much better without the tax cuts exploding the debt, but I'm proud they were able to hold some kind of line against the pure evil of the Republican majority.

4. What is meaningful to me is how horrible that bill COULD have been....

That bill could have been just HORRIBLE. Imagine the horror.

But the Repubs chose to WORK WITH the Dems to get their votes and not have a huge fight. So some good Democratic amendments and changes were accepted.

So ....the bill itself is very good in some respects. AND
It's meaningful that the Repubs & Dems worked together on it and passed it, even tho the Freedom Caucus and others were strongly against it. I mean...Trumpers and far righters are TICKED OFF big time about it. Ann Coulter says "Thank you, President Schumer, for the spending bill." LOL.

I don't know what I think of Schumer and Pelosi. I do know that Schumer got some great stuff for New York, which may have been partly why Trump went for it.

And Pelosi got that zinger in. That was appropriate because she wasn't taunting; she was merely answering the question of why the Repubs pushed the bill thru on a one-day vote instead of the regular three-day.

and Nancy was good. She never misses an opportunity to point out the incompetence of the House Republicans and I love her for that. but, on the whole, it looks good.

As far as the NY Gateway project, I don't know much about it, but when I see this kind of thing, I think of southern Alabama where people are sick because they don't even have any kind of sewage treatment. Could we throw a couple of million $$ in for Americans in dire need of basic services? I'll be looking at this bill carefully over the next few days to see just where the money is going, but you're right, I think we dodged a huge horror show and mainly because Democrats know how to govern and the thugs don't, and that's why they chose to work with Dems.

that put a Democrat, Doug Jones, in the Senate. I hope he fought for a few dollars for his constituents who are in need. That's part of what I want to look for in this bill.

3. Schumer's praise of the republian president on tariffs was unexplainable. I wonder now, though,

whether he was playing the republican president who famously rewards the last person who complimented him.

Or perhaps I am grasping at straws looking for someone in control around here.

9. Articles I read didn't mention it, either. It's been all over the news...it's a given.

This is a REPUBLICAN bill, and Trump gave a speech saying the ONLY reason he signed it was because of the historical budget increase for the Dept of Defense.

So Schumer & Pelosi didn't go through all that's bad in the bill. There is a lot that's bad in the bill. They touted what they were able to get, in exchange for voting for the bill. Which is appropriate.
