...before anything really productive can be done on the gun issue. For now it's a political football, and enough Democrats in Congress are beholden to the gun lobby that seriously addressing the issue is impossible, even in the face of these heinous mass shootings.

You also have to take into account that a majority of Americans don't really want to get rid of guns.
