Once it had completed its flight, the pod broke away and the car on a stand is now headed to the asteroid belt.

it's going to last. Outer space may look quiet and boring, but it's actually a hotbed of unkind intentions of microscopic particles, radiation and even a bunch of very large rocks. He does look pretty cool in that driver's seat, though.

Much of it is made of plastic and cloth and stuff like that. Those degrade in outer space environ.

And yup! Starman is ultra cool. At least for a while. Plus, he has a towel and a "Don't Panic" sign to help him on his way. Those, plus a copy of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy in the glove box.

Don't look up "Vogon Constructor Fleet" whatever you do.

The second stage burn kind of overshot the Mars transfer orbit.

Musk seemed pleased, as well he should have.

This launch went as good or better as could have been expected.

The double side booster landings back at the Cape were, as Phil Plait said, a ballet.
