(102,292 posts)(when I could afford it)... But, while I am not a vegetarian, I do believe in humane practices from birth to "death" and haven't eaten lobster in more than a decade. Not sure I will again.

(41,831 posts)You really don't get as much "meat" as you would with Dungeness Crab. Which is why I prefer Dungeness Crab and its widely sold at Fisherman's Wharf in SFCA.

Lets let the lobsters try to reclaim some of their territory anyway, and go easy on them.

(15,805 posts)In my youth I lived near the beach in Los angeles and fresh California spiny lobsters were easy to come by. The store owner would plunge the tip of a sharp knife straight down right behind the lobster's eyes to kill it immediately and I'd take it home to cook. That the way I learned do it.
I was shocked the first time I saw a restaurant throwing live lobsters directly into boiling water. Its just inhumane.

(43,890 posts)I like to clean the lobster of all it's innards before boiling, to get a cleaner, sweeter taste. This of course requires dexterity and a very sharp knife.
