This is so much how I've learned to like the Dutch after many discussions (well arguments) with them. They don't give up!
The US press corps, not so much. It takes spine and the willingness to go against the forces that control your paycheck.
As someone infamous has said: SAD.

(4,341 posts)that have been planted long ago where politicians have to drop the balls in a flask when signing to the republican party, they seem to believe they work for whomever the leader of their party is and not for the country. These lack of balls happened during Reagan, Bush, it is nothing new.
"The US press corps, not so much."...I hate to differ on that as well, journalists in the US press corps are afraid of being kicked out so they coward, don't ask the tough questions, then accept whatever lie Sarah Huckabee Sanders spews.
I think it is important to accept the fact that truth has become a thing of very little importance in the USA. If you talk to anyone abroad, Europe, S. America, anywhere, they will tell you that USA is corrupt, that the lack of sincerity is widespread, that is why the the reporter in the Netherlands meant when she said "This is the Netherlands" (this is not the USA)...It meant, you answer the questions and you answer them truthfully in this country, you are not in the USA where you can lie.
In the USA people are not made accountable for lying any longer, there is an acceptance for lying and justified as a "means to an end", and unless that stops, the USA will have more Trumps governing.

(1,332 posts)He is from West Michigan (Holland) where the dutch who settled here were the extreme CRC religious people. And they still are. They suffocate politics and culture here every chance they get. He is an idiot. I'm glad he's not here anymore but embarrassed that he's there representing our country. Then again, I've been embarrassed since November of 2016.

(4,341 posts)or have we forgotten how bad he was?
Let us not forget that GW Bush was the worst president in the history of the USA, its just that the man-child is so bad that I think many have forgotten how bad GW was. The bar has been drop a few feet below ground with the man-child.

(15,286 posts)You can run for office if you really want to.
If you win, you know you are subject to this rule.
- A snap vote can be called for by 40% of your constituents at any time with at least 6 months having been passed since the last snap vote.
- There will be 5 days to collect the votes (computerized and block-chained) only *See Estonia for example.
- Approval ratings:
--- >= 50% :: no change
--- < 50% and >= 40% :: schedule a new election within one year
--- < 40% and >= 25% :: second best candidate from prior election takes over and new election within 6 months
--- < 25% :: immediate electrocution (the office-holder is required to sit in a special chair whenever conducting business)
(I realized that the special chair may need to be fitted with a below-the-seat lou....)
OKAY - tongue-in-cheek...?
