he would lift the sanctions, and Flynn wanted him to for his own business reasons too. The whole reason Tillerson was Sec-o-State was the Russian oil deal (probably named at Putin’s request).

This is what makes the most sense to me. I am sure the Russians have all kinds of leverage on Trump as well.

Do you deal with the FBI who may cut you a deal, maybe a reduced sentence? Or do you stick with a guy who can give you a pardon ?

There was very little benefit - and much criticism - for Trump pardoning Arpaio. It also broke the standard procedure for pardons.

Was Trump saving "Sheriff Joe” or was he demonstrating to those around him, that if they stuck with him, he could save them ?
