How Russian CyberWarfare Defeated America Dr Timothy Snyder

Yale Historian and Author of "On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons From The 20th Century" talking about how Russia usurped America's democracy and placed Trump in power. What do you think?

I think this is probably the most intelligent conversation on the "mega picture" of American politics/society I've seen in months.

I am intrigued by the concept that hyper-partisanship (in his words) opened up a "flank" for Russian opportunities to penetrate the political system and to manipulate it...(note: a DU post this morning from a rather obscure source points to a person with significant NRA associations offering to use Russian Contacts to open a "dialogue" between Putin and Trump..and...the Russians recognizing that the three stools of the Republican Platform (guns, white supremacy and religious fundamentalism) made perfect highways for penetration of the American electorate)

The Professor seems to think that a return to a type of patriotism, that is, recognizing protection of our sovereignty is the first priority and that partisanship is a secondary consideration is the key to undoing the damage that has been done. I am not too optimistic about that. I think the hyper-partisanship has actually disintegrated to more elemental traits of actual TRIBAL warfare. I point only to the atrocity of the tax bill that the Republicans rammed through Congress just this week. I fear we have crossed a tipping point of some kind from which there is no return...at least in my view.

What do you think?
