(182,878 posts)Organization Says Senate Tax Bill Disastrous for Education, Employment of Blind Americans
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Release Date:
Wednesday, November 29, 2017
National Federation of the Blind officially opposes the United States Senates current Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA).
According to projections by the Congressional Budget Office, the losses in tax revenue under the TCJA will be so high, at least initially, that they will trigger the pay-as-you-go rules of the Office of Management and Budget. This will eliminate funding for vital programs and services for the blind, such as Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) and Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) funding. These vital services link blind people to educational and employment opportunities by providing the training and resources that they need.
The detrimental impact the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act will have on blind Americans cannot be denied, said Mark Riccobono, President of the National Federation of the Blind. This bill slams the door on education and vocational rehabilitation, and ultimately on employment, for some seven million blind Americans. We call upon the United States Senate either to protect these critical programs and services, or to vote no.

(1,151 posts)And, honestly, I stand to get a tax cut from this plan. But I have enough foresight to see where this will end for seniors, the middle class, the poor, the sick...we'll all pay in the end. I cannot believe this is where our country is heading.

(6,646 posts)It may be the end of the Republican Party Forever. But not without taking us all down with them.
I always felt like the right lost so much moral ground when W was in office. Then Obama helped swing the pendulum back with such force it scared them.
Now the 1% is bribing the Republicans to vote there way.
We all know how greedy they are. I think many of the Republicans think they can take the money and let the other suckers vote against the bill while they pocket their support $.

This proposed wealth-redistribution should prompt massive, nationwide protests with a clear message: The pitchforks are coming for you and the plutocrats who hold your leashes!
I know Ive posted this video elsewhere on DU before, but its worth watching again.

(37,648 posts)I am recently retired. I retired a bit early for reasons that are boring to go into. But I have my budget carefully planned out...my expenses, my medical care, food, pet care, car, etc.
If something happens to throw any of those things way out of kilter, it could spell the end of me. I've budgeted for surprises, of course. Unexpected expenses or expenses that are higher than I anticipated. But I and millions of others couldn't weather a drastic increase. Those seniors on SS alone or with just a tiny retirement account...they'd go under. They might die. I might die, if Medicare doesn't provide cancer treatment.
This is really bad news. They are breaking a promise to seniors. The Trumpers probably aren't reading things like this and only listening to the Republicans, who are painting a glowing picture. Even if they did, they wouldn't believe it.
