Deaf woman tased, and jailed for 3 days with no interpreter after calling cops for help.

To hearing-impaired DUers. Sorry, but this video came with no transcript or closed captions.

The lady called 911 when she was being attacked in her home. She exited her apartment when instructed to do so by the 911 dispatcher (coordinated with cops on the scene), but was attacked by officers, then jailed with no interpreter for three days before all charges were dropped. Cops defend their attack, but are giving no answers about the three days that followed.

The situation is NOT "complex." It is simple police brutality and CYA. The fact that she is Black is certainly a factor in why they Tased her and treated her as a perp, but then, when they realized how they'd screwed up, they went into full CYA mode, and that is what they are still doing.

I hope she sues them into next year

Today's cops show no common sense at all--they just grab their Taser and shoot. Then, when they realzie what they've done, they create a story that will justify--they think--their mishandling of the situation.

Cops often mistreat those who are deaf or hard of hearing, simply because they cannot hear commands, and because the cops automatic response to anything is to assault the citizen they have come into contact with. With an aging population, they absolutely must be trained to assume that some people they encounter will not be able to hear them!

I have an article saved about a deaf, partially blind 71-year-old woman who was similarly assulted because she didn't hear a cop's command to stop. Then, when her glass eye popped out in the street because of the force of the tackle she was subjected to, her 91-year-old mother came out with a small plastic bowl of water to wash the eye off with. The cops then attacked the 91-year-old woman! Their excuse? They thought she could use the small bowl of water as a weapon!

Heck, even if she did use it as a weapon (and why would they imagine that she would choose a bowl of water if she wanted a weapon?), all it would do is wet the cops down. How would that constitute a deadly threat?

This is just idiotic. I'm tired of the calls to support the cops. Yeah, there are some really good people on the forces here and there. But this crap keeps happening and happening, and that says a lot about the general state of the police.

It's the non-emergency line for their 911 center (Tacoma/Pierce Co. Law Enforcement Support Agency). There are no police personnel stationed at those offices, and a call to that number will accomplish nothing more than hampering emergency responders' communications by slowing them down.
