Why is someone allowed to lie so much from a government podium? there should be a law against it, if it is proven that the person is lying, then they should be held accountable and be punished somehow.

Why is it, and this is not new, that the USA has allowed lies as a "status quo" of political discussion? Why are politicians allowed to lie about, and smear their opponents and not be sanctioned?

This is as disgusting as it gets, but if people allow this to continue, it will only get worse.
