I've been doing genealogy research for some years now and just recently discovered that Abe Lincoln's mother was a sister of one of my direct ancestors so Lincoln is a very, very distant cousin. I also took the Ancestry DNA test and discovered, to my surprise, that I am half Irish. Always thought I was half British and found out I'm only 12%. There are some fascinating people in my ancestry and I'll bet in everyone else's too.
Since I've been doing research I've come to the conclusion that it would be an excellent way to teach history in school. You get a lot more interested when you find family members who took part in historical events and almost everyone is related to some famous person from the distant past.
