Look at section 2:20 and listen. He has a freudian slip. He's talking about his opponent's husband? And he says, likewise they have a reduced, er, released their income taxes. Or something to that effect.

So, is it possible he's associating the fact that released income taxes will show he has a reduced rate?

In the debate in 2002 Mitt Romney said that he wouldn't release his tax returns, despite agreeing to back in 1994 against Ted Kennedy if he released his first, because he had a change of heart and values his privacy. However, that same year Romney is still agreeing to release his tax returns if Ted Kennedy, who is not his opponent this time, releases his.

What is a bald-faced lie, although one that can't be proven, is his claim that he had a change of heart and so now agrees with Kennedy about the importance of protecting one's privacy by not releasing taxes. It's amazing that he could make that claim with a straight face.

but when you run for public office you have to show the American People that you can be "trusted" and that you have nothing detrimental to hide and that you will represent their best interests...
