(6,045 posts)When I was growing up & going to church I NEVER fell for the indoctrination...I can't explain why other than I thought "god" was basically for adults & us kids had Santa, Easter Bunny & Tooth Fairy who by the way actually produced results when I was good & asked for something! LOL! However, once my little pantheon of "gods" fell around 5-7yrs old the adult god I was taught about at church seemed just as fake! Living in the deep south my questions in Sunday school but more so me telling other kids there really was no god got me in trouble! When some adults accused my parents of putting such questions in my head, and they most certainly never did, our attendance at church slowed...And when we did go I was not to speak in church other than to say hello.
Once I was grown up I learned very quickly that people (Adults) really believed there was a god especially in basic training!! The USAF practically forced Christianity down our throats! Out of 75 people in my basic training class 4-5 of us did not go to church on Sundays & we were forced to clean the bathrooms & showers...The job no one liked doing for obvious reasons!
Anyway, to read Richard Dawkin's book "The God Delusion" was like a huge breath of fresh air & thinking that mirrored mine! I finally felt like I was not alone in thinking the way I did.

(17,502 posts)28 years ago, we hung out in the mornings and did the cleaning in the afternoon. The afternoon was also when the Mormon services were. For some strange reason, I felt this need to get in touch with my Mormon roots (on my Dad's side). OK I admit, it was so I could skate out of cleaning.
