is hardly "in the middle of an ocean, a very big ocean". Trump would fail a fifth grade geography exam. He's just that incurious and ignorant. But he seems quite content to be the most ignorant man in the room. Of course his toadies will always tell him that he "nailed it". 
He is entirely ignorant about geography, let alone history! And he has shown no inclination to learn or to pay even the slightest attention. This cartoon expressed it nicely:
