(12,870 posts)Eric Clapton was the headliner and he was great, but the stage belonged to Stevie Ray Vaughan.
What a tremendous loss.

(1,945 posts)One of my big regrets is that I never got to see him play live.
I can't even imagine that line up! (I have seen Clapton live so that one is off my bucket list at least.)
Yes, truly a huge loss. So sad.

(4,450 posts)I agree, SRV owned that night, as good as Clapton was (and always is).

My wife and I see Robert Cray every time he comes to Chicagoland, but I often think of all the great music Stevie Ray Vaughan still had in him that never got a chance to come out here on Earth.

(267 posts)There were only about a dozen people there. All any of us knew about him was that he had walked out of recording sessions with Bowie. I parked myself about 6ft in front of him on the stage, and was awestruck. He's still one of the few guitar players I can listen to play solos and not get bored.

(6,974 posts)Met SRV here in Los Angeles YEARS ago in an airport. He was quite the charmer. Actually, he was kinda shy. STILL have the autograph. Lost the picture I took with him when I moved to where I live now
