(19,204 posts)to be able to enter his opulent palace of the lord, or can everyone benefit from this tax exempt facade of foolishness?
He seems like the type of guy who wouldn't want just anyone entering "his" enormous "church". Charlatans like him are the reason I abhor organized religion. Any "church" which has spent it's monetary donations on the acquisition of worldly, wealthy affectations should be subject to taxation, in my opinion.
Every "church" should be made to keep detailed books of money taken in, and money spent on helping those in need. Like any other charity, a "church" that spends an inordinate amount of money on "fundraising" or "administrative costs" should get a low rating, and a visit from the IRS. When a "church" becomes nothing more than a personal piggy bank for an unscrupulous conman, then it's time for HEAVY taxation. These people are no more a "man of god" than I am. They're gaming a system that's ripe for the picking, and playing upon the fears of it's parishioners to enrich themselves, and nothing more.
Religion is a racket. Look at the wealth the Vatican, Scientology, and just about ANY major "religious" denomination has amassed. Is THAT what religion is supposed to be about? I'd dearly love to see this major league jackass hoisted on his own petard, and I get the feeling it'll happen to this clown, just like it has to the rest of the "men of god" of his ilk that came before him.

(9,897 posts)If these money making scams want to enrich individuals and specific families, then TAX them and tax them at the individual rates with NO DEDUCTIONS...a non-profit "church" should be required to show their donations and net-zero worth annually to retain a tax-free status. After all, the tax-free rationale is because they are soooooo charitable, right?

(19,204 posts)have so abused and misused their tax free status it's a joke, but the government won't go NEAR a church since their legal run-ins with scientology. There SHOULD be some means test to see if they're an actual church, or a money making scheme for amassing personal or "church owned" wealth. Religions with BILLIONS in assets are NOT CHURCHES OR RELIGIONS! These shysters are laughing at the government that protects them and their precious "religions" and are amassing wealth beyond belief. It's past time to crack down on these criminals.
