(28,960 posts)I hear it in discussions on the cable networks all the time. Google it and a number of articles come up. And I doubt if the comedians at Comedy Central write their own stuff. He probably has a lot of the same writers Jon Stewart had. Some very talented, knowledgeable folks over there.

(9,350 posts)The Democratic candidate for President won the popular vote by 3 million votes. It is possible that the main reason she lost the electoral college vote is because of voter suppression. In addition, it is possible Hillary Clinton won on all of the substantive policy issues. We must remember many of Trump's supporters voted for him because they did not like Hillary Clinton. They also opposed many minority groups.

(28,960 posts)Michael More predicted what was going to occur there. Sure Trump lied his ass off in those states but he was attacking NAFTA and saying he would bring back manufacturing and do deals that would be better for America. A lot of folks on DU are out of touch with people who only tune into politics every few years. Sure, here at DU we all know what Democrats are about because we all read the news and do research all the time but millions and millions don't. That is just a fact! Any campaign manager knows how important branding is. Anyone who sells ANYTHING knows how important branding is. McDonald's makes billions because of good branding. It's absolutely crucial to winning and yes the Democratic Party has sucked at it lately.

(12,414 posts)Democrats, liberals, progressives, feminists, black lives matterists, environmentalists, unionists, socialists, and freedom lovers of all persuasions have been branded for years by the frightwing party.
We are their leftists, femnazis, treehuggers, thugs, labor disruptors, antilifers, peaceniks, beatniks, and all sorts of what the fuckniks according to the branding that has been laid on us.
We never seem get to set a brand that sticks to the Repugs. No matter how racist, anti feminist, hateful, paranoid, or undereducated they actually behave as; no such brand sticks to them as well as the brands they have slung stick to us.
We need to pick a brand for them and make them own it, whatever will be appropriate following their trek to hell with Trump.
We need to accept and hold fast to a brand that fits our ideology and reflects who we really are as human beings.
We are indeed, the remaining true Americans and we better start flying that flag.

Democrat cowardliness is the result of a very effective branding campaign.

(53,056 posts)with members/critics obsessed with branding and entirely unconcerned with what is good for the country.
The New Deal is sacrosanct, the Square Deal hasn't been criticized, yet people are outraged at this latest deal, while Nina Turner rails about the oppression of donuts and water. If all the critics and Democratic voters obsessed with slogans devoted a fraction of that attention to policy, principles, or what is right for the country rather than armchair political consulting, we might have a party membership worthy of the name Democrat. Instead, we see arguments that more than three words is too hard to understand. People insist our candidate stood for nothing because they couldn't fit the entirely of her platform onto a bumper sticker. And now the demand are to boil down the message to nothing, to toss aside women's rights, to throw out anything of substance in pursuit to the God of Madison Avenue, branding.
The party is only as good as its members, and I'm not seeing much to recommend us lately. I proudly voted Democrat last fall. What I've seen demanded by the arm chair political consultants has led me to question whether the party will will mean anything when they're done with it, or if the goal is simply to become a only slightly less hateful and exclusionary version of the GOP.
For all the complaints were heard last year about how the Democratic Party didn't stand for anything, people seem intent on ensuring that becomes true.

(53,056 posts)Perception is an for those who wear a refusal to inform themselves on the candidates' policies as a badge of honor. Perception is an excuse, an excuse for a value system that exalts corporate media and slogan policies that actually impact peoples lives.
That perception you refer to is a lie, the production of decades-long propaganda by the GOP and a Kremlin operation costing hundred of billions of dollars. It was eagerly abetted and spread by their collaborators driven by hatred, not just of Clinton but of the poor, people of color and women who voted for her.
You have several times responded with great anger to me over the fact Clinton was the nominee. It's clear you bitterly resent the fact I exercised my right to vote as I saw fit rather than deferring to you.
It's hard to imagine that kind of contempt is reserved for me alone, since my one vote is no different from the rest of Democrats--predominantly largely people of color, women, and the poor--who constituted the majority of Clinton's voter base throughout 2016. That you have to share the vote with us clearly galls you to the point that and you haven't come to terms with the fact that your one vote is worth no more than anyone else's. Entitlement is such a cross to bear.

the people who hated her hate these groups who largely supported her and support the democratic party .
when people vote for someone like fucking trump or don't see the importance of voting for the democrat to stop trump it shows me they have no concern for certain groups.
